Hello, All!
Is there an interesting story behind your username?
I sure think so. I chose the username horse_spirit because I've always loved horses. I've loved riding them, being in their company...and I also love horses because they're free spirits like I am. While I'd never own horses for the amount of work that would be required to keep them well cared for, I do consider them to be my favorite kinda animal.
Location and language(s):
United States; English.
Age range (e.g 20s, 30s, etc.):
I'm in my 30s.
Hot button/deal breaker issues that will likely lead to unfriending:
I don't wanna read anything that's in support of republicans or of how Democrats are ruining the world. I also don't wanna read things that say atheists, disabled folks, people in the LGBTQ community, kink community or folks who are pro-alternative relationship styles...are immoral or somehow less than other folks. That is not what I believe and I won't make time for those kinda beliefs in my online or offline life.
Do you have an "About Me" post new friends can read to get a sense of who you are, the people you talk about regularly, etc.?
Yes. That post can be found as one of two sticky posts on my DW. The other sticky post of mine is where you'll see the rules I have for interacting with me/others on my DW.
Is your profile up-to-date or at all useful?
I like anomymity so my profile is not useful.
List a few things you think it's important new friends know about you right away:
I'm the most liberal person I know and I'm not interested in hearing lectures about how that's wrong, why I'm going to hell ETC. I'm a proud atheist, a proud gay woman and I have no qualms about enforcing the rules that I've laid out on my personal DW journal. My DW is my house, even though you may not see it as such. Please treat it with respect, support and healthy discussion.
You mostly write about:
What it's like living with trauma, disability/chronic illness and music reviews...because I love music.
You never or very rarely write about:
I rarely write about politics in terms of what's currently going on in the world, though I do write about worldly goings on from time-to-time because I feel I have valuable things to say. I also don't write fanfic; I literally have one post on my DW where I tried out writing fanfic...and discovered that fanfic isn't my thing. Yes, even though I'm proud of that particular post.
Is your journal mostly public, locked, or a mix of public and locked?
My DW is mostly public, as I'm an open book in my offline life. That being said, if I'm in romantic or other adult-oriented relationships with other consenting folks, I'll always ask their permission before I share things on my DW that involve them.
Do you use filters for certain types of posts (e.g. fandom-related posts, or posts about sex, or mental health issues, etc.)?
No. I'm mostly fine with reading a wide array of things.
Your posting frequency (e.g. daily, every few days, weekly, etc.):
I write multiple times a week, but would love to write daily. However, most days, my arthritis would scream at me if I wrote daily...so I'm learning how to pace my blog writing. But I'm not gonna lie, it's hard as hell for me to not write, even when I'm in lots of arthritis pain.
Does your journal frequently include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc?
No. My journal is all text posts.
What do you enjoy most about journaling?
Journaling is my dumping ground. Writing never betrays me or criticizes me for how I'm feeling. Writing can and does also give me clarity/peace about things.
How often do you read your friends list (e.g. daily, every other day, once a week, etc.)?
Once a week right now, simply because I don't have many friends who write in their DWs regularly.
You really enjoy reading about:
People's lives, what makes folks come alive, how they think about/work through trauma...and even their thoughts on music, disability-related issues, kink/alternative relationship-friendly folks, personal growth ETC.
You have very little interest in reading about:
Pro-republicans, anything that promotes homophobia, doesn't wanna see people's disabilities and/or believes that monogamy is the only way to conduct relationships. I also don't wanna read about religion in terms of people criticizing atheists/those who don't believe as they do.
Your thoughts on journals that regularly include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc?
I'm blind so I have no interest in blog posts that have pics or videos. However if your visual content is described in a text format or if you wanna know how to make your visual content accessible to blind people, I'd be happy to help you do so.
When it comes to comments on your posts, what matters more -- quality or quantity?
Definitely the content of the comments that I receive. I don't care one bit about numbers.
Do you unfriend people who don't comment much, even if you know they are reading you regularly?
Definitely not. I respect that people may not feel they have anything valuable to say, or that perhaps commenting just isn't their thing. Because I know that for me, I only write on my DW when I have valuable things to say...so I get that some folks may not always wanna comment.
What is your approach when it comes to commenting on other journals?
Much like is true for my own journal, I don't comment on others' journals unless I have something to say that I think will add value to the discussion being had.
When you friend someone, but things don't really click, do you unfriend them without warning, or do you send them a note first? How do you prefer to be unfriended in similar circumstances?
Honestly, creating this DW account will be the first time I'm trying to connect with others through my writing, in a deep way. That said, I'm adult enough that if something really bothers me, I'll speak up about it. But otherwise, I'll just scroll by things I don't like or subject matters that I have nothing valuable to add.
AND LASTLY
Friending memes often ask people to list their favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., but more often than not, those aren't things people actually write about in their journal. Do you have any favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., that you DO often write about -- not necessarily in a fandom sort of way, just in general?
Yes, I often write about documentary-type shows that I watch, music-related shows and crime-related shows. I also love the series Once Upon a Time, Stranger Things and Unsolved Mysteries, just to name a few.
Any final thoughts you'd like to share with potential new friends?
I write about my family of origin's abuse which I'm finally free from; I don't wanna hear how people feel about the personal choices I've made for my life around this issue or any other issues, unless folks are coming from a place of kindness and support. I deeply wanna connect with people through my writing because I have valuable perspectives on so many things...but also, human connection is one of my favorite things in the world. I'm a firm believer that the kinds of relationships you can have with others don't have to have limits placed on them by society. I believe that when you allow relationships to happen authentically, they truly can take any form.
I wrote a welcome post on my DW giving a nod to this very community; in that post, I linked to a few of my favorite posts that I've written. If you wanna check that post out, it can be found at:
