Is there an interesting story behind your username? There's a story, but I don't know if anyone would find it interesting. As a boy, I loved the story of Moby Dick. As a teen, I read lots about sperm whales. I still love both the book and whales. Physeteridae is the species family term for sperm whales. And I'm not even a science geek.
Location and language(s): Greater London, UK. English
Age range (e.g 20s, 30s, etc.): Mid 40s
Hot button/deal breaker issues that will likely lead to unfriending: Bigotry or hate speech, anything sexually explicit that's not behind a cut. I can't think of anything else off the top of my head
Do you have an "About Me" post new friends can read to get a sense of who you are, the people you talk about regularly, etc.? Not yet. I'm still trying to write one. I'm not quite sure what information is pertinent to include
Is your profile up-to-date or at all useful? I believe so
List a few things you think it's important new friends know about you right away: I feel very boring compared to everyone else. Hopefully I'm using these terms correctly - I'm a white straight cis male. I have no major disabilities or illnesses to speak of. I'm married with three children. I'm not into fandom or fanfiction - although I do love fantasy, horror & science-fiction. I love rock music, rock climbing, snowboarding, marvel movies, norse mythology, work in politics and nerd out over true crime, serial killers, social justice and political science & philosophy
You mostly write about: Day to day life, sport, movies, family, general politics
You never or very rarely write about: Specifics about my work, sexual content, celebrity gossip, linkspams,
Is your journal mostly public, locked, or a mix of public and locked? Mostly public
Do you use filters for certain types of posts (e.g. fandom-related posts, or posts about sex, or mental health issues, etc.)? No
Your posting frequency (e.g. daily, every few days, weekly, etc.): Every few days
Does your journal frequently include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc? I definitely foresee memes, maybe photos and videos.
What do you enjoy most about journaling? Having a record of my life combined with a brian dump, and the opportunity to meet new people
How often do you read your friends list (e.g. daily, every other day, once a week, etc.)? Every few days
You really enjoy reading about: People's lives, their thoughts and feelings,
You have very little interest in reading about: fanfiction, 'shipping', ~drama, link spams
Your thoughts on journals that regularly include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc? I'd rather know what you think about the thing you're sharing
When it comes to comments on your posts, what matters more -- quality or quantity? Both, actually. I get a kick out of knowing people are reading my rambles, but I also want to be able to hold conversations with people
Do you unfriend people who don't comment much, even if you know they are reading you regularly? Probably not
What is your approach when it comes to commenting on other journals? If I have something to say, I'll say it
When you friend someone, but things don't really click, do you unfriend them without warning, or do you send them a note first? How do you prefer to be unfriended in similar circumstances? I would definitely prefer if someone tells me wh they're unfriending me and would be doing the same
AND LASTLY
Friending memes often ask people to list their favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., but more often than not, those aren't things people actually write about in their journal. Do you have any favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., that you DO often write about -- not necessarily in a fandom sort of way, just in general? Moby Dick & Jaws are two of my favourites movies, I've also been enjoying The Meg movie and books by Steve Alten. The MCU movie series is taking over not just my life, but my childrens' too, and Thor is my God. Stephen King and Michael Crichton are probably my favourite writers, Steven Spielberg and Ron Howard are my favourite directors. I support Arsenal FC. Music wise, we're talking Aerosmith, Metallica, Guns N' Roses & Van Halen.
Any final thoughts you'd like to share with potential new friends? I hope I'm not too boring!
