Community Description: | This is a community to help people find friends on Dreamwidth! |
This is a community to help you find new friends on Dreamwidth. There are other such comms on DW, but this one is, we think, a wee bit different. We were a bit frustrated with the sorts of questions regularly asked on friending memes, since they didn't really address how people use their journal and what sort of friends they were really looking for, what sort of interaction they were hoping for when friending someone. A lot of them were solely focused on fandoms. We hope the questions asked here address these issues. If you're a fandom person, you will note that these questions are not at all geared towards fandom -- they're geared towards finding people to connect with online. Doesn't mean you can't participate -- please do! We're just trying give people a broader sense of what to expect if they friend you.
How it Works
1. Select the text in the text box of the intro post (or further down this page).
2. Create a new post, paste in the text you copied, and answer the questions. Do NOT paste your questions and answers in reply to someone else's post. If you do that, no one else will know that you've posted. Only a new post will show up in other members' feed.
3. Add any other information you think will be useful to those reading your answers. If you want to include a photo of yourself, that is entirely up to you.
4. Post your entry.
5. Select and copy the code for the community promo gif and paste into your own journal.
6. Read through the other entries. If someone sounds interesting, reply directly to their post. Include a link to your own entry so that they can read about you.
7. From time to time, you may see a post from the admins asking people to post a new community promo gif in their own journals. Please do so. You do not have to participate again in the friending meme if you don't want to, but please help spread the word about this community by posting the gif.
Community Guidelines
1. If you complete the questions, please promote the community by posting the promo gif in your own journal. This community will only work if word gets out and lots of people participate.
2. The plan is to regularly re-up this community's profile by getting members to re-post a promo gif. Please do so, even if you don't plan on filling in the questionnaire again.
3. No trolling or drama. This is a friending community -- if you don't like something scroll past and don't comment.
4. Please don't post more than once every four weeks.
5. Community promotions or memes do not belong here.
THE MEME
These are the questions.Copy the text in the textbox below the questions, and paste it into your entry.
Is there an interesting story behind your username?
Location and language(s):
Age range (e.g 20s, 30s, etc.):
Hot button/deal breaker issues that will likely lead to unfriending:
Do you have an "About Me" post new friends can read to get a sense of who you are, the people you talk about regularly, etc.?
Is your profile up-to-date or at all useful?
List a few things you think it's important new friends know about you right away:
You mostly write about:
You never or very rarely write about:
Is your journal mostly public, locked, or a mix of public and locked?
Do you use filters for certain types of posts (e.g. fandom-related posts, or posts about sex, or mental health issues, etc.)?
Your posting frequency (e.g. daily, every few days, weekly, etc.):
Does your journal frequently include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc?
What do you enjoy most about journaling?
How often do you read your friends list (e.g. daily, every other day, once a week, etc.)?
You really enjoy reading about:
You have very little interest in reading about:
Your thoughts on journals that regularly include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc?
When it comes to comments on your posts, what matters more -- quality or quantity?
Do you unfriend people who don't comment much, even if you know they are reading you regularly?
What is your approach when it comes to commenting on other journals?
When you friend someone, but things don't really click, do you unfriend them without warning, or do you send them a note first? How do you prefer to be unfriended in similar circumstances?
AND LASTLY
Friending memes often ask people to list their favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., but more often than not, those aren't things people actually write about in their journal. Do you have any favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., that you DO often write about -- not necessarily in a fandom sort of way, just in general?
Any final thoughts you'd like to share with potential new friends?
