Welcome to Finding Friends!

I've noticed several people using the this community's questions over on another friending community ([community profile] addme ), but without bothering to also post here.

I'm happy that people like our questions, but if you are planning on using them on other sites, please have the decency to 1) post here first and 2) give us credit for them on the other site.

Thank you.

Please select and copy the meme text in the textbox below. Create a NEW entry, paste in the copied text and fill in your answers.

cocosmileyboo: (Stock: You Are Enough)
[personal profile] cocosmileyboo
Is there an interesting story behind your username?
Not really? "Coco" is derived from the nickname "Coconut," "Smiley" was my mom's childhood nickname, and "Boo" was my childhood nickname from my parents. It's just a username of sentimental value, I guess.

Location and language(s):
From Idaho, USA. I speak English.

Age range (e.g 20s, 30s, etc.):
I'm in my 30s, my partner is in his 40s... I'm open to adding anyone over 18.

Hot button/deal breaker issues that will likely lead to unfriending:
Just don't be a jerk, overall. Extreme views that could be described as "harmful" from either left or right will be met on a case-by-case basis.

Do you have an "About Me" post new friends can read to get a sense of who you are, the people you talk about regularly, etc.?
I have a general "About Me" on my "Friends Only" post in my journal.

Is your profile up-to-date or at all useful?
Uhm. It says "Under Construction" lol. It does have my name, birthday, location, and interests...?

List a few things you think it's important new friends know about you right away:
I live with chronic pain and chronic illness and mental illness. I currently live on disability and am unable to work, though I do not wish this to be my final destination in life. I'm inconsistent, contradictory, and I wear my heart on my sleeve.

You mostly write about:
It's more like what don't I write about. I write about whatever comes to mind. Lately, I've been writing a lot about books and what I've been reading.

You never or very rarely write about:
Controversial topics, politics, etc.

Is your journal mostly public, locked, or a mix of public and locked?
I try to make it a mix of public and locked. If there's a lot of personal details, the post is usually friends only.

Do you use filters for certain types of posts (e.g. fandom-related posts, or posts about sex, or mental health issues, etc.)?
Filters? No, no. Tags, yes.

Your posting frequency (e.g. daily, every few days, weekly, etc.):
My posting frequency can be described as inconsistent. I can post daily, several times a day, weekly... or I can go a few months without posting.

Does your journal frequently include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc?
I like memes and post them occasionally, sometimes I post links to thinks I find interesting (such as when I am shopping online), rarely post gifts, sometimes post photos, will occasionally embed a YouTube video.

What do you enjoy most about journaling?
Expressing myself and interacting with other people and getting to know them.

How often do you read your friends list (e.g. daily, every other day, once a week, etc.)?
It depends. If I'm posting, I'm also reading my friends list for sure, but sometimes I also log in just to catch up.

You really enjoy reading about:
When it comes to journals, I'm not picky. It's not my journal, I'm just along for the ride. That being said, I love reading about people's lives, whether it's topic-specific or just day to day stuff.

You have very little interest in reading about:
Controversial topics, politics, etc.

Your thoughts on journals that regularly include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc?
I love those things, generally. Especially memes.

When it comes to comments on your posts, what matters more -- quality or quantity?
Quality. I don't expect comments, so don't sit and force discussion if you don't have anything to say. That being said, don't hold back, either.

Do you unfriend people who don't comment much, even if you know they are reading you regularly?
I don't usually go through and unfriend people anymore unless given a reason.

What is your approach when it comes to commenting on other journals?
I'll comment if I have something relevant to say.

When you friend someone, but things don't really click, do you unfriend them without warning, or do you send them a note first? How do you prefer to be unfriended in similar circumstances?
I don't usually unfriend people on here unless they do something I can't forgive... but it's usually done quietly and I'm open to whatever they are comfortable with in similar circumstances.

AND LASTLY

Friending memes often ask people to list their favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., but more often than not, those aren't things people actually write about in their journal. Do you have any favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., that you DO often write about -- not necessarily in a fandom sort of way, just in general?
I'll mention my favorite things if they come up, or give titles of things I am watching, reading, playing, etc. But my journal is not a fandom journal or a subject-specific blog... it's just a journal. I mention video games and books quite a bit, sometimes TV shows and movies.

Any final thoughts you'd like to share with potential new friends?
Overall, I'm a pretty laid back person. I'm difficult to offend, I make fun of everything and everyone (no one is immune), and I'm also a work in progress.
catness: (Default)
[personal profile] catness
Is there an interesting story behind your username? It means the quality of being a cat, because I'm a cat person and identify myself with cats.

Location and language(s): In my own head, mainly. English is preferred for two-way communication.

Age range (e.g 20s, 30s, etc.): These numbers are depressing. Damn, I remember floppy disks, MS-DOS command line, text adventure games...

Hot button/deal breaker issues that will likely lead to unfriending: Not really. If your journal turns out to be too boring, I can just remove it from my reading filter.

Do you have an "About Me" post new friends can read to get a sense of who you are, the people you talk about regularly, etc.? Yes, a short one.

Is your profile up-to-date or at all useful? I suppose.

List a few things you think it's important new friends know about you right away: I'm enthusiastically pro-AI, and various AIs are an indispensable part of my daily life (work, personal stuff, motivation, psychotherapy, you name it). Not to write instead of me, of course, because that would be defeating the whole point; writing should be FUN :) (Maybe "Type 2 fun", but fun nonetheless.)  I do use AI for spell/grammar checking when I'm not too lazy.

You mostly write about: My writing assignments, book/movie/game reviews, productivity toys, challenges, memes and questionnaires.

You never or very rarely write about: Mundane life ("real life" is a confusing term... who's to define what is real for you? ;) , politics, social issues.

Is your journal mostly public, locked, or a mix of public and locked? Mostly public.

Do you use filters for certain types of posts (e.g. fandom-related posts, or posts about sex, or mental health issues, etc.)? Nope.

Your posting frequency (e.g. daily, every few days, weekly, etc.): Weekly plus/minus a week. I consider posting more often.

Does your journal frequently include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc? YES.

What do you enjoy most about journaling? It's an easy way of self-expression which does not involve interacting with other humans on a physical plane.

How often do you read your friends list (e.g. daily, every other day, once a week, etc.)? It depends... from daily to weekly.

You really enjoy reading about: Creative stuff, interesting thoughts, motivation hacks, challenges.

You have very little interest in reading about: Politics, social issues.

Your thoughts on journals that regularly include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc? Bring it on!

When it comes to comments on your posts, what matters more -- quality or quantity? Quality.

Do you unfriend people who don't comment much, even if you know they are reading you regularly? Nope.

What is your approach when it comes to commenting on other journals? I'm terrible at commenting. I always fear that my contribution to the discussion is not good enough.

When you friend someone, but things don't really click, do you unfriend them without warning, or do you send them a note first? How do you prefer to be unfriended in similar circumstances? Nah, notes are not necessary.

AND LASTLY
Friending memes often ask people to list their favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., but more often than not, those aren't things people actually write about in their journal. Do you have any favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., that you DO often write about -- not necessarily in a fandom sort of way, just in general? I'm obsessed with The Locked Tomb series by Tamsyn Muir; I even use them as a basis for my personal gamification system. (You have 9 Houses (well, technically 8), which map nicely into different skills and life areas :) I often mention various computer games, Black Mirror, Harry Potter (yeah, still :P),  Pokémon Go, Tarot (I'm not a Tarot reader, but I love all sorts of structures and classifications), MOOCs...

Any final thoughts you'd like to share with potential new friends? Meow.

[personal profile] lewa
Is there an interesting story behind your username? not really, no

Location and language(s): midwest US, English

Age range (e.g 20s, 30s, etc.): 30s

Hot button/deal breaker issues that will likely lead to unfriending: if you're not sex/kink positive, don't bother adding me. also, to get it out there, I'm anti-AI.

Do you have an "About Me" post new friends can read to get a sense of who you are, the people you talk about regularly, etc.? I've got a pinned post, it's not ultra thorough or anything tho

Is your profile up-to-date or at all useful? it's kind of bare minimum, but I don't think I need more there.

List a few things you think it's important new friends know about you right away: I'm not fannish. I'm autistic and have a very tough time forming connections if we have no commonality.

You mostly write about: video games, life, idk

You never or very rarely write about: stuff I'm not into

Is your journal mostly public, locked, or a mix of public and locked? I've decided that with my return to dreamwidth, it's access only.

Do you use filters for certain types of posts (e.g. fandom-related posts, or posts about sex, or mental health issues, etc.)? nsfw posts are age restricted, that's about it.

Your posting frequency (e.g. daily, every few days, weekly, etc.): to be determined as time goes

Does your journal frequently include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc? perhaps occasional photos and videos

What do you enjoy most about journaling? putting my thoughts down somewhere

How often do you read your friends list (e.g. daily, every other day, once a week, etc.)? my bookmark here is the reading page, so...

You really enjoy reading about: thoughts on video games, what's goin' on in your life, idk really

You have very little interest in reading about: anything fannish, current events etc., religion

Your thoughts on journals that regularly include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc? idc, do what makes you happy. if I were to find it too much, I can simply decide to unsub.

When it comes to comments on your posts, what matters more -- quality or quantity? I'm indifferent.

Do you unfriend people who don't comment much, even if you know they are reading you regularly? no, I genuinely don't care about comments

What is your approach when it comes to commenting on other journals? if I have something to say and I can form the words, I'll comment.

When you friend someone, but things don't really click, do you unfriend them without warning, or do you send them a note first? How do you prefer to be unfriended in similar circumstances? I don't need to know why someone's removing me, it's whatever. I'm too socially anxious to handle having to tell someone I'm removing them.

AND LASTLY

Friending memes often ask people to list their favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., but more often than not, those aren't things people actually write about in their journal. Do you have any favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., that you DO often write about -- not necessarily in a fandom sort of way, just in general? can't say I do right now, but that could change in the future.

Is there an interesting story behind your username? umm, it was nillavald12 before, which was a combination of my name and my anime husbands last name. But then I wanted something that sounded cooler, while I was studying I found that and said, ok that works lmafo.

Location and language(s): Burgerland America, English.

Age range (e.g 20s, 30s, etc.): 20s, but I’m open to making friends of all ages (except minors)

Hot button/deal breaker issues that will likely lead to unfriending:animal abuse, racism, the bar is low.

Do you have an "About Me" post new friends can read to get a sense of who you are, the people you talk about regularly, etc.? yup, my top post.

Is your profile up-to-date or at all useful?id say so.

List a few things you think it's important new friends know about you right away:I am currently in the throes of a warhammer obsession, I will be posting art and rambles about warhammer extremely feverishly for the next 3 years at the bare minimum.

You mostly write about:on my public entries, fannish things and Linux. On my locked entries, mostly boring life updates.

You never or very rarely write about:politics I guess.

Is your journal mostly public, locked, or a mix of public and locked?it’s a mix of both locked and unlocked things! I like to keep things separated that way.

Do you use filters for certain types of posts (e.g. fandom-related posts, or posts about sex, or mental health issues, etc.)?yes, I do filter out my mental health posting sometimes. I’m bad with that. All mental health stuff will be put behind a read more and locked either way…

Your posting frequency (e.g. daily, every few days, weekly, etc.):I do try to post weekly.

Does your journal frequently include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc?I am an artist, so there will be lots of drawings and picspams. They will all be spoilered behind a read more though.

What do you enjoy most about journaling?I like having a long form place to work out my thoughts, and to have captions for each of my drawings.

How often do you read your friends list (e.g. daily, every other day, once a week, etc.)?I read it every time I log on, and that does depend on how busy I am and how much procrastinating I’m doing in the real world XD

You really enjoy reading about:Your creative process, logs about sewing, drawing, writing, anything creative! If you’re fannish and have juicy long posts about your blorbos, I love love love that. I also love reading about people’s days and joining in kvetching. But I really really would love to read about your blorbos, and join in fannish love. Or your Ocs! Or your sewing or knitting or cosplay adventures!!

You have very little interest in reading about:tiktok drama. Discord drama. I’ll read about twitter and tumblr drama tho.

Your thoughts on journals that regularly include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc?LOVE IT. GIMMEEE

When it comes to comments on your posts, what matters more -- quality or quantity?hmmmm. Quality.

Do you unfriend people who don't comment much, even if you know they are reading you regularly?no. I’m bad at commenting too, so I don’t unfriend people for not commenting.

What is your approach when it comes to commenting on other journals?if I have something interesting to add, or if I think you need some hugs or something, I try to be thorough with my comments. But sometimes we as a society just need some simple hugs or reassurance and I can do that too. I’m trying to be more thorough with my comments tho…

When you friend someone, but things don't really click, do you unfriend them without warning, or do you send them a note first? How do you prefer to be unfriended in similar circumstances?I’ll be honest, I don’t let people into my private journal unless we click. My public entries have lots to see, and idk I get private on there so I dont just let everyone in… if you want to unfriend me, I don’t need a note explaining why, you can just do it. I don’t care. I also unfriend in silence. I didn’t even know people sent notes about that sort of thing to be honest…

AND LASTLY

Friending memes often ask people to list their favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., but more often than not, those aren't things people actually write about in their journal. Do you have any favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., that you DO often write about -- not necessarily in a fandom sort of way, just in general?hmmm. In a fannish way, deffo warhammer. And metal gear. I get very obsessive over one thing at a time, so if I like something, I’m gonna post about it insanely for a good few years.

Any final thoughts you'd like to share with potential new friends? I also like quilting!

Is there an interesting story behind your username? It was my Wi-fi password that came preset over 10 years ago. I liked it, so it stuck.

Location and language(s): Illinois, USA. I speak English but can also read French.

Age range (e.g 20s, 30s, etc.): I'm in my 30's.

Hot button/deal breaker issues that will likely lead to unfriending: Racism, homophobia, sexism

Do you have an "About Me" post new friends can read to get a sense of who you are, the people you talk about regularly, etc.? I have something on my profile currently. I plan to eventually make a post.

Is your profile up-to-date or at all useful? Yes.

List a few things you think it's important new friends know about you right away: I'm a lesbian. I'm getting my BA in English and minoring in Political Science. The world, on occasion, frustrates me. I post about it. I also post about mental health things. My journal here is fairly new, but There will be posts.

You mostly write about: This journal is fairly new, but my life, things I think about, and possibly eventually papers I've written in school and short stories.

You never or very rarely write about: Very specific information that may give away who I am or who people I'm writing about are by name. I like a level of anonymity.

Is your journal mostly public, locked, or a mix of public and locked? Mostly locked.

Do you use filters for certain types of posts (e.g. fandom-related posts, or posts about sex, or mental health issues, etc.)? No. I generally don't give TW either. If the topic was particularly graphic or in a lot of detail, I would.

Your posting frequency (e.g. daily, every few days, weekly, etc.): Multiple times a week.

Does your journal frequently include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc? I imagine there will be a time when photos make it. But currently there are none.

What do you enjoy most about journaling? Being able to sort through things in my head. Preserving memories.

How often do you read your friends list (e.g. daily, every other day, once a week, etc.)? I'm just starting this, but it will be daily. I'm from the LJ era and was very active.

You really enjoy reading about: anything really. I'm extremely curious.

You have very little interest in reading about: there really isn't much.

Your thoughts on journals that regularly include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc? I'd be fine with it.

When it comes to comments on your posts, what matters more -- quality or quantity? If I posted something that made someone feel like commenting, that would be cool. I don't have any expectations here.

Do you unfriend people who don't comment much, even if you know they are reading you regularly? No.

What is your approach when it comes to commenting on other journals? I'm generally pretty active. As far as frequency or length, it would depend on what was posted.

When you friend someone, but things don't really click, do you unfriend them without warning, or do you send them a note first? How do you prefer to be unfriended in similar circumstances? I don't think I would unfriend someone for not "clicking" with me. I think I'd still be interested enough to read. I don't have a preference in how someone unfriended me for these circumstances. If I offended someone unintentionally or something, I'd like to know so I'd be given the opportunity to take accountability and apologize, but I wouldn't feel owed that.

AND LASTLY

Friending memes often ask people to list their favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., but more often than not, those aren't things people actually write about in their journal. Do you have any favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., that you DO often write about -- not necessarily in a fandom sort of way, just in general? Not really. I've been reading Dungeon Crawler Carl currently. I read a lot. I don't know that I'd delve into anything so deep as to give spoilers or anything. If I did, I'd use a cut and a spoiler warning.

Any final thoughts you'd like to share with potential new friends? I'm excited to be back here.
babycoric_boygirl: A light grey and white kitten with a rounded square frame in the colors of the babycoric flag. There's a white sparkle graphic in the corner as well as some simplistic pink cloud shapes overlaying the border and small parts of the cat. (Default)
[personal profile] babycoric_boygirl
Is there an interesting story behind your username?: my username is just two gendery terms that apply to me. Babycoric is a xenogender related to the aesthetic 'babycore.' And 'boygirl' is a term that I feel really resonates with me when it comes to how I experience gender. I'm bigender and while none of my genders really count as binary male and female, my main two genders are pretty close, in a way.

Location and language(s): United States, only English (unfortunately. I wish I could learn others, but it's very hard for me.)

Age range (e.g 20s, 30s, etc.): 20s, but I'm not really a typical young adult either. My internal identity is weird when it comes to that stuff because neurodivergence and trauma be weird like that. Also, I'm suspicious of people who only want 18+ interaction because there's no easy way for me to tell the people who'd dislike me (due to me not being 'adult enough' for them) apart from the people who have legit reasons to have that boundary.

Hot button/deal breaker issues that will likely lead to unfriending: Bigotry, even if it's against groups that are commonly seen as fine to be bigoted towards. I'm the type to get annoyed at a leftist show for having ableist and adultist jokes, so if you dislike people who are 'too woke', then you don't want me as a friend.

Do you have an "About Me" post new friends can read to get a sense of who you are, the people you talk about regularly, etc.?: Not yet, but I have considered making one. I do have a bit of info on the mini bio on my profile, though.

Is your profile up-to-date or at all useful?: I assume so? I didn't join that long ago.

List a few things you think it's important new friends know about you right away: I'm queer (the kind that's cool with however you identify even if some would call it 'contradictory'), I'm part of multiple groups on top of that that people find cringe (ex: agere, otherkin, furry), I've got audhd, I'm struggling a lot with some pretty intense mental health stuff, and I don't really care that much about meeting society's ridiculous standards anymore. (For example, I'm of the opinion that people who are averse to eye contact, whether it's due to being autistic or something else, should get to do whatever. I'm not a liar just because I don't make eye contact, I just don't wanna feel uncomfy for people who aren't worth it.) (Sorry if that counts as more than 'a few things', I'm kind of a yapper!)

You mostly write about: I'm still making up my mind. I don't have a specific theme for posts, but I'm really interested in being able to yap about my interests. It'd be kinda hard to give a list of those simply because some of them very much depend on how much energy I have to do things like engage with my hobbies.

You never or very rarely write about: I'll never post about detailed sex stuff because I'm a sex repulsed ace and the kinks I have are the types of things that I wouldn't wanna post about.

Is your journal mostly public, locked, or a mix of public and locked?: mostly public.

Do you use filters for certain types of posts (e.g. fandom-related posts, or posts about sex, or mental health issues, etc.)?: I try my best. And on anything that I think has a high possibility of being triggering, I add a warning or disclaimer on the first line even if the triggering thing is something that seems pretty small to me personally.

Your posting frequency (e.g. daily, every few days, weekly, etc.): It varies. My mental health struggles have made it hard for me to process time the ways most people do. Sometimes I'll think I made a post yesterday and then look at my profile and see that I haven't posted in two days. This will probably get better in the future, but for now please don't count on me having a reliable internal sense of time.

Does your journal frequently include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc?: Not really? And odds are if I include anything approaching that stuff, I'll be linking to it rather than having it as part of the post.

What do you enjoy most about journaling?: Having a place to yap in the way that feels most easy and natural to me, aka through typed words. My communication issues are much worse when I'm having to verbally communicate with people in situations where there isn't much time to think stuff over.

How often do you read your friends list (e.g. daily, every other day, once a week, etc.)?: I haven't been on here very long, so I don't really have many friends at all, therefore there's not much reason for me to check it. If I had more friends on here then I don't know how much I'd check it.

You really enjoy reading about: people pondering things (especially if those things are major big picture type things like 'is it ethical to convince people that the world has rigid rules inherently when that simply isn't true?'), people being unapologetically weird in ways that I know would likely get them hate comments on toxic platforms like Tiktok.

You have very little interest in reading about: explicit sexual content (if it's only every now and then and I can easily not view it, it's fine, I guess), posts that discuss things like intense child abuse and sexual harm with no warnings (I'm fine with posts like these sometimes, but I need the warnings.

Your thoughts on journals that regularly include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc?: It depends. If the links are to things like actually helpful mental health resources then I might love them. Videos I likely won't look at simply because the bluetooth on my laptop isn't working right and my only corded headphones broke.

When it comes to comments on your posts, what matters more -- quality or quantity?: I definitely like quality comments, but I also don't mind people just responding with a heart or a very short comment if they gotta. I'm very bad with social things so I don't want people feeling like they have to overthink whether or not their comment is 'good enough.'

Do you unfriend people who don't comment much, even if you know they are reading you regularly?: Nope, I'd never do that. There are so many reasons someone could be in a slump when it comes to social stuff, even 'smaller' stuff like commenting on posts, so I wouldn't wanna unfriend over that. Also, I post about a variety of stuff, so the lack of comment could easily be the person simply having nothing relevant to say because they don't know much about the topic. I don't wanna assume.

What is your approach when it comes to commenting on other journals?: I wanna comment when I can (like when socializing in general isn't something that'll screw with me) and when the topic is something where I feel like I can actually contribute something to the convo, even if it's just a 'you made good points when you mentioned X about Y.' I am prone to overthinking and spiraling over things, though. Odds are when I do comment it'll be after I have reread my comment several times at least. Don't worry, it isn't personal, I'm just an anxious wreck.

When you friend someone, but things don't really click, do you unfriend them without warning, or do you send them a note first? How do you prefer to be unfriended in similar circumstances?: I have no idea the social rules for this. I'd be the type who'd be very anxious about sending a note because I'd be scared of coming off as rude. I don't really mind if people unfriend me without warning, but like, is that because I assume that's the default? I don't know.

AND LASTLY

Friending memes often ask people to list their favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., but more often than not, those aren't things people actually write about in their journal. Do you have any favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., that you DO often write about -- not necessarily in a fandom sort of way, just in general?: I have no idea at the moment. I haven't had the energy recently to get super into anything, so I don't know if I'll ever be into a piece of media enough to wanna post about it.

Any final thoughts you'd like to share with potential new friends?: I'd very much love to have friends who have the same 'cringe culture is dead' type of mindset that I have. For me, it's more like 'cringe culture is alive but we should all kill it together.' People still do get hurt by those types of mindsets, but I fully support encouraging people to throw those mindsets into the trash to make room for healing. Also, I go by they/it pronouns! I get how me seeing myself as a boygirl may cause some confusion there, but I don't go by either of the binary pronoun sets.

Is there an interesting story behind your username?
Not really, it's actually very mundane. "Llum de Lluna" means "Moonlight" in catalan (I live in Catalonia, Spain). I have always been fascinated by the moon, the night, the stars... so I decided to get this username.

Location and language(s):I live in a small town close to Barcelona, in the North East of Spain. My journal entries are always in English, but in my daily life I use mostly Catalan, or Spanish. Since English is not my first language sometimes my phrases might sounds weird, so I apologize in advance for that.

Age range (e.g 20s, 30s, etc.): mid 40s. (I feel much younger, but I also feel it's a cliché thing to say because everybody I talk to says they feel younger).

Hot button/deal breaker issues that will likely lead to unfriending: Racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, xenophobia and other forms of discrimination are unwelcome in my journal. I value people who are respectful and open-minded, and I like to treat others with dignity, regardless of their background, identity, or beliefs.

Do you have an "About Me" post new friends can read to get a sense of who you are, the people you talk about regularly, etc.? I have an about me post linked in my journal, but only people I add as friends have access to it because it contains personal information.

Is your profile up-to-date or at all useful? Yes, it's up to date and it gives basic information about who I am and about my interests.

List a few things you think it's important new friends know about you right away: Don't expect fandom in my journal. While I watch several TV shows, I play videogames and I love movies, I don't really post about fandoms, and I rarelly comment on fandom posts.

You mostly write about: I mostly post about daily life, about all those random mundane things that make life beautiful. I always try to add a photo to my post, because I like to keep things visual. You'll also notice that I talk a lot about the change of seasons, because I love to see nature change through the year, and enjoy all the little pleasures that go with each season.

You never or very rarely write about: Fandoms. Sometimes I share what I am reading, or a movie/TV show I watched, but not from the fandom point of view. I never post or read fanfic, either.

Is your journal mostly public, locked, or a mix of public and locked? All my entries are locked.

Do you use filters for certain types of posts (e.g. fandom-related posts, or posts about sex, or mental health issues, etc.)? Not right now, but I am thinking about adding some, mostly for more sensitive topics, or topics that could be a trigger.

Your posting frequency (e.g. daily, every few days, weekly, etc.): I try to post several times per week. Unless I go through a rough phase and this is not possible.

Does your journal frequently include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc? Photos, I try to add a photo to each of my posts (to give it a visual context).

What do you enjoy most about journaling? The people I meet along the way. While I like to keep records of things that happen to me for future reference, I mostly enjoy reading about what is going on in other people's life. I think that the kind of connection we can get in places like this is so much better than what you get in social media these days. In here you get to really know people and what their life is without filters, or at least, with a lot less filters. I truly value that, and to me this is better than any instagram post.

How often do you read your friends list (e.g. daily, every other day, once a week, etc.)?  try to read and comment daily, or almost daily.

You really enjoy reading about: Daily stuff, even when it's just routine. I love to read about the "mundane" life of others, which to me are not mundane at all. I find comfort in routine.

You have very little interest in reading about: Fandoms. I already mentioned that.

Your thoughts on journals that regularly include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc? If they also share stuff about their life or about themselves I don't mind that people post memes or similar.

When it comes to comments on your posts, what matters more -- quality or quantity? I don't expect that people read and comment on all my posts, that would be unrealistic and selfish. I like to know that people who follow me are interested in at least some of my posts, and that they comment in a more or less regular basis, mostly because it helps to create a connection.

Do you unfriend people who don't comment much, even if you know they are reading you regularly? I do regular purges, and if I see that somebody's journal have been innactive for months and they haven't commented in months in mine either, then I usually unfriend. I'm always open to friend back if they come back later, tho.

What is your approach when it comes to commenting on other journals? It's one of the main reasons why I am here (interaction). I like to read what others post, and I like to comment when it's possible, even if it's just to say that I read the post. Obviously sometimes I don't know what to say or have nothing to say and I won't comment, but I like to keep the communication biderectional.

When you friend someone, but things don't really click, do you unfriend them without warning, or do you send them a note first? How do you prefer to be unfriended in similar circumstances? It depends on the person and the circumstances. I think we have all unfriended somebody without a note, after years of journaling this happens (and it has happened to me as well). I really don't have a protocol, I think each case is different. I try to be fair.

AND LASTLY

Friending memes often ask people to list their favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., but more often than not, those aren't things people actually write about in their journal. Do you have any favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., that you DO often write about -- not necessarily in a fandom sort of way, just in general? Not really a favorite, or at least not one that stands out or that I post about all the time. I love to watch TV shows and movies, I love to read graphic novels, and I love to play videogames on the PC. I'm very open on the pop culture front, but I don't have specific fandoms I post about.

Any final thoughts you'd like to share with potential new friends? I have been journaling for ages (since around 2002 or so). I was in LJ back then, and my username in there was "polvodestrella". If that username rings a bell to you, let me know, I lost touch with a lot of people I had in my flist in there, and I am sad about that.
beebalm: (Default)
[personal profile] beebalm
Is there an interesting story behind your username?

It's a native wildflower in my area. I like native plants, bees, hummingbirds, herbal medicine, and things that make ecosystems stronger. Seemed like a solid choice.

Location and language(s):

East Tennessee. English. Some very broken Spanish and Mvskoke.

Age range (e.g 20s, 30s, etc.):

Mid 30s.

Hot button/deal breaker issues that will likely lead to unfriending:

Bigotry, cruelty, and people who think compassion is a weakness. I don't mind disagreement but I do mind dehumanizing people. If you don't get the difference, we likely won't click.

Do you have an "About Me" post new friends can read to get a sense of who you are, the people you talk about regularly, etc.?

Yep, it is stickied at the top for people I've given access to.

Is your profile up-to-date or at all useful?

Useful enough. I try to keep my interests list detailed enough so people can find me through those.

List a few things you think it's important new friends know about you right away:

I'm a gay woman from Appalachia. I'm autistic. I grew up in a very diverse family and am an enrolled member of a federally recognized tribe. I'm a caregiver. My family and community feature heavily in my writing. I care a lot about community, mutual aid, stewardship, and making the world a little easier for other people to survive in.

You mostly write about:

Whatever is happening in my life. Family, caregiving, health stuff, road trips, nature, local history, community work, funny stories, grief, joy, and the occasional adventure that starts with "so I had this idea..."

You never or very rarely write about:

Fandom, celebrity gossip, influencer culture, or detailed reviews of media.

Is your journal mostly public, locked, or a mix of public and locked?

Mostly locked.

Do you use filters for certain types of posts (e.g. fandom-related posts, or posts about sex, or mental health issues, etc.)?

Nope but I will put heavier things behind a cut if I think they're potentially triggering.

Your posting frequency (e.g. daily, every few days, weekly, etc.):

A few times a week on average. Sometimes more, sometimes less.

Does your journal frequently include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc?

Photos occasionally. Memes when I find one funny or interesting enough. Otherwise not much.

What do you enjoy most about journaling?

The people. I like watching friendships develop over years through the accumulation of ordinary life.

How often do you read your friends list (e.g. daily, every other day, once a week, etc.)?

Most days.

You really enjoy reading about:

People's actual lives. Family stories, hobbies, gardens, pets, community projects, travel, local culture, weird niche interests, personal growth, and whatever someone is genuinely passionate about.

You have very little interest in reading about:

Rage bait, influencer culture, and people trying to build a personal brand.

Your thoughts on journals that regularly include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc?

A little of anything is fine. If your journal is mostly reposted content and very little "you," I probably won't connect with it as much.

When it comes to comments on your posts, what matters more -- quality or quantity?

Quality, easily.

Do you unfriend people who don't comment much, even if you know they are reading you regularly?

Nope. Comments are always appreciated but never required.

What is your approach when it comes to commenting on other journals?

I comment when I have something genuine to say. Sometimes that's often, sometimes it isn't. I don't keep score and I don't expect anyone else to either.

When you friend someone, but things don't really click, do you unfriend them without warning, or do you send them a note first? How do you prefer to be unfriended in similar circumstances?

I don't take online friending particularly personally. Sometimes people click, sometimes they don't. No hard feelings.

AND LASTLY

Friending memes often ask people to list their favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., but more often than not, those aren't things people actually write about in their journal. Do you have any favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., that you DO often write about -- not necessarily in a fandom sort of way, just in general?

Not really. I might occasionally mention books, movies, podcasts, or documentaries, but my journal is much more about life than media.

Any final thoughts you'd like to share with potential new friends?

I'm much more interested in who people are than whether we have all the same interests. If you're kind, curious, and write about your actual life, we'll probably find something to talk about.
porcelainlamb: (Default)
[personal profile] porcelainlamb
Is there an interesting story behind your username? Well... I used to collect porcelain dolls as a kid and my fursona/truesona is a lamb! :D

Location and language(s): I'm from England and I speak English.

Age range (e.g 20s, 30s, etc.): I'm in my early 20s and I would prefer to friend other young people.

Hot button/dealbreaker issues that will likely lead to unfriending: AI/NFT bros, fandom related content, K-Pop, right-wing politics, empty journals, NSFW/Rule 34/Fetish content, religious slop, bad grammar and spelling, bigotry of all stripes, drama-farmers, 4Chan posers, crybullies, TikTok/Instagram speak, and people who can't take a joke.

Do you have an "About Me" post new friends can read to get a sense of who you are, the people you talk about regularly, etc.? Yes I do, and I have a more detailed About Me over at my site! Click here!

Is your profile up-to-date or at all useful? Yup!

List a few things you think it's important new friends know about you right away: I'm BIPOC, AFAB and a lesbian! I have mild Autism and Dyslexia; so please I beg you to be patient with me at times, since I kinda suck with people. I'm an anthro artist who's eager to improve and is very open to feedback and advice; hell, I even have an art journal over at InsaneJournal!

You mostly write about: My day-to-day life and whatever interests me that day (usually music or anime or some random MMORPG)!

You never or very rarely write about: Politics, online drama, gardening, world affairs, celeb gossip and other stuff I find boring.

Is your journal mostly public, locked, or a mix of public and locked? Mostly public minus entries featuring personal photos.

Do you use filters for certain types of posts (e.g. fandom-related posts, or posts about sex, or mental health issues, etc.)? Yes!

Your posting frequency (e.g. daily, every few days, weekly, etc.): Every few days or even daily :]

Does your journal frequently include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc? Mostly text with some photos here and there.

What do you enjoy most about journaling? Just having a place to yap about random stuff makes me feel powerful!!!

How often do you read your friends list (e.g. daily, every other day, once a week, etc.)? Daily

You really enjoy reading about: Other people's days, cool furry or animanga art, music, alternative fashion, and retro furry and animanga stuff!

You have very little interest in reading about: Stuff I would imagine my mum or a teacher being into... no offence! I'm just a big kid at heart that's all. Also, I don't wanna hear about your sex life especially if it's graphic!

Your thoughts on journals that regularly include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc? I don't wanna see yo unfunny memes and videos, dawg... ;[

When it comes to comments on your posts, what matters more -- quality or quantity? Quality with some quantity thrown in for good measure.

Do you unfriend people who don't comment much, even if you know they are reading you regularly? Nope!

What is your approach when it comes to commenting on other journals? I only ever comment if I know you really well, or we have a lot in common...

When you friend someone, but things don't really click, do you unfriend them without warning, or do you send them a note first? How do you prefer to be unfriended in similar circumstances? I don't really unfriend unless I really need to for the sake of my own peace.

AND LASTLY

Friending memes often ask people to list their favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., but more often than not, those aren't things people actually write about in their journal. Do you have any favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., that you DO often write about -- not necessarily in a fandom sort of way, just in general? It always constantly changes. Right now, I'm really into the donghua Tales of A Herding God! Qin Mu, my beloved protagonist!!!

Any final thoughts you'd like to share with potential new friends? As long as you aren't annoying, ultra corny or cruel, we can definitely be friends, homefry! :3 Also, I mostly post my art on deviantART; so if you have an account on there; please give me a watch!!! <3

Location and language(s):i live in the USA and speak only english! i am currently learning japanese, though.

Age range (e.g 20s, 30s, etc.):30's

When you friend someone, but things don't really click, do you unfriend them without warning, or do you send them a note first? How do you prefer to be unfriended in similar circumstances?i never really had to do this before, so i really don't know how to answer. i'm not an unfriender i suppose, LOL

AND LASTLY

Friending memes often ask people to list their favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., but more often than not, those aren't things people actually write about in their journal. Do you have any favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., that you DO often write about -- not necessarily in a fandom sort of way, just in general?i looove talking about anything hoyoverse (genshin/honkai/zenless) and whatever other online/gacha game i'm playing at the time!

Any final thoughts you'd like to share with potential new friends? hello! i hope we can become friends and get to know each other more ^-^ i'm pretty chill i'd say!
skimmed_miilk: (Default)
[personal profile] skimmed_miilk
Is there an interesting story behind your username? Not really, it's just a play on the phrase "no point crying over spilled milk" but skimmed as I was on a weight loss attempt at the time. I actually kind of hate it now, and I'm considering buying a rename token. My current name was also a rename from the original YoungAcidia that I wrote under when I started this journal way back in 2002.

Location and language(s): West of Scotland, near Loch Lomond. I only speak English, despite a short-lived attempt to learn Spanish.

Age range: Early 40's

Hot button/deal breaker issues that will likely lead to unfriending: My journal is my space to be me, and so I have no interest in sharing it with those who don't support reproductive rights, feminism, freedom of gender or sexual identity, anti-fascism, anti-colonialism, a free Palestine and Ukraine, green policies, a universal basic income, socialism...you get the jist.

Do you have an "About Me" post new friends can read to get a sense of who you are, the people you talk about regularly, etc.? Not currently, but I'll perhaps write one if I find new friends.

Is your profile up-to-date or at all useful? I did tweak it a little recently, I'm not sure how useful it is. I suppose it gives a little flavour?

List a few things you think it's important new friends know about you right away: I'm a mum of three, nonna of (soon-to-be) two, dog mum. I work for a humanitarian charity, in retail. I live with depression and low self-esteem, and have done my whole life. I experienced a messy divorce with infidelity and financial abuse - it's in the past but these things shape a person. I have an incredible circle of family and friends. I don't always like to act my age. I share my home with a ridiculous amount of books.

You mostly write about: Daily life; my everlasting struggle against my natural inclination towards hibernating on my sofa; books and films I've consumed; weight training and weight loss; finding myself in midlife.

You never or very rarely write about: I'm not a fandom-er. I have dabbled in writing fiction, but it's not based on any existing IPs. I would like to get back into it, and if I do I'll share it but that hasn't happened yet.

Is your journal mostly public, locked, or a mix of public and locked? It's access-only.  It's just so I at least get introduced to whoever is reading, but I'm not necessarily private. I doubt anyone I know in real life would be interested or even know Dreamwidth exists, so I feel pretty free to say what I want. I just prefer the idea that I'm having a conversation rather than being overheard...if that makes sense. I've maybe made my oldest entries fully locked, just from a cringe point of view as I was just a dumb kid when I started this journal, but I can't remember and don't really care.

Do you use filters for certain types of posts (e.g. fandom-related posts, or posts about sex, or mental health issues, etc.)? Not filters, but I will use a cut if I'm going into detail about something that I think might be triggering for some. For me, that's mainly when I talk about weight loss, which I don't do very often anyway.

Your posting frequency (e.g. daily, every few days, weekly, etc.): Since coming back to this journal this year, it's been at least weekly. I'm hoping to be more frequent, but finding time isn't always easy.

Does your journal frequently include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc? Not often, I can't be arsed with the faff of uploading, linking, etc. But if I do include things like that, they go under a cut.

What do you enjoy most about journaling? Chronicling life, and just getting the chance to be with my thoughts and get them out. I'm quite a solitary person a lot of the time, but even then we all need a way to talk about things. My journal is often the place for that.

How often do you read your friends list (e.g. daily, every other day, once a week, etc.)? Probably weekly, after I've written a post. I'm not as good at commenting as I used to be, but I'm working on it as I want to get back to how this journal used to be, with dialogue and community. Harder these days since the death of LJ and journaling in general, especially with people my own age.

You really enjoy reading about: Those also figuring out this stage of life, those who get personal about the things they're living through, reviews of books, rants, takes on the culture, women's issues.

You have very little interest in reading about: Fandoms...sorry!

Your thoughts on journals that regularly include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc? Your journal is your space, so crack on. But they have to be a backdrop to your thoughts to get me interested, rather than the only things you post.

When it comes to comments on your posts, what matters more -- quality or quantity? I'd like to know at least someone is reading, but I'd rather someone commented because they have something to say rather than just the Dreamwidth equivalent of a like.

Do you unfriend people who don't comment much, even if you know they are reading you regularly? No. Although how would I know they're reading...? I generally only unfriend people if I really don't gel with their journal and feel we have absolutely no common ground.

What is your approach when it comes to commenting on other journals? As I said, I'm not as good at it as I want to be. Some of that is because, since moving from LJ, I don't feel I've built up a rapport with folks. And that's on me, as I'm a a bit shy, awkward and avoidant. But I'm working on it...I perhaps need coaxed out of my shell.

When you friend someone, but things don't really click, do you unfriend them without warning, or do you send them a note first? How do you prefer to be unfriended in similar circumstances? I wouldn't announce it. I think if you aren't clicking, then it's obvious as there is just no interaction at all, so I doubt if either of us would even notice. I have unfriended people in the past who then still wanted to read my posts, and I'm cool with adding them back if that's the case. But it's a case of no hard feelings - if someone doesn't want me reading them, then that's their prerogative - journals should be safe, comfortable spaces.

AND LASTLY

Friending memes often ask people to list their favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., but more often than not, those aren't things people actually write about in their journal. Do you have any favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., that you DO often write about -- not necessarily in a fandom sort of way, just in general? Not really. I just like writing about what I've read or watched as and when it comes up. A flavour of what that could be is that I'm more drawn to human experiences like motherhood, marriage breakdown, female friendship, migration, mental health. Maybe with a little sprinkling of magical realism or dystopia too. I'm an indie kid at heart, and that's probably reflected in my listening, reading and watching tastes. My interests in my profile include some favourites of all these things.

Any final thoughts you'd like to share with potential new friends? I feel journaling online is a dying art, so those of us still here need to find each other. If I've sparked your interest, give me an add and I'll follow you back. We can try each other out, see if we fit.

Hi, I'm Tina :)

Is there an interesting story behind your username?
Not really, I just needed a name so I took a lyric from my favourite Taylor Swift song at the time, "ivy". The whole line is "my house of stone, your ivy grows, and now I'm covered in you".

Location and language(s):
Germany. German (native language), English (near-fluent), and I am currently learning French. I also know some Spanish and bits & pieces of Polish, Turkish and Dutch.

Age range (e.g 20s, 30s, etc.):
Old Late 30s (to be exact, I turn 38 in fourty-four days).

Hot button/deal breaker issues that will likely lead to unfriending:
Besides the usual closed-minded views - if you think a person's worth depends on how much work they can contribute to society or on how healthy they are, both physically and mentally.

Also, neither radical zionists nor Hamas supporters, please (I don't talk about this topic on my journal but I don't want to associate with extremists on either side).

Lastly, no-one under 18 years of age - nothing personal, I just am not comfortable with having non-adults reading my entries.

Do you have an "About Me" post new friends can read to get a sense of who you are, the people you talk about regularly, etc.?
I do, you can read it as a sticky post once we're friends :)

Is your profile up-to-date or at all useful?
It is up-to-date - as for usefulness, that's for the beholder to decide ;)
While I don't have a "biography" on there, you can always gain some info by looking at my interests.

List a few things you think it's important new friends know about you right away:
-> I'm mentally ill and have also been dealing with some physical health problems lately. This means that my entries aren't always a 100% positive, although I try my best not to be a complete downer. It also means I don't always have the spoons to reply to comments and entries but I catch up whenever I can!

-> I am neurodivergent which means I sometimes misunderstand things or take them too literally, and I am bad at phrasing things. If I ever say anything offensive, please try to give me the benefit of the doubt that it wasn't on purpose and tell me what I did wrong and I will apologize and try my best to learn from it.

-> I have been bullied on here before to the point that I had to change journals and been slandered on other communities, which has made me wary of people adding me without notifying me before. So please comment on here or on my Friends Only post before friending me, thank you very much ♥

You mostly write about:
My daily life, things that go through my head at any given time, books that I read (I do a weekly "Reading Wednesday" post), travels. I sometimes posts memes/surveys, but not so often that it gets annoying - hopefully! I also post lots of photos, often of my cat Lucy.

You never or very rarely write about:
Politics/social issues (I care about them A LOT but my DW is supposed to be a safe place away from the constant influx of terrible news).

Is your journal mostly public, locked, or a mix of public and locked?
99% locked, as I don't feel comfortable with having my private stuff out there for everyone to see.

Do you use filters for certain types of posts (e.g. fandom-related posts, or posts about sex, or mental health issues, etc.)?
No.

Your posting frequency (e.g. daily, every few days, weekly, etc.):
Not counting the weekly Reading Post, I try to update at least once a week, usually on Sundays.

Does your journal frequently include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc?
Photos, yes. I sometimes post a video if I hear a song I want to share.

What do you enjoy most about journaling?
Sharing my thoughts and daily events with others, getting feedback and new perspectives that help me and make me think, emptying my mind of stuff that weighs on me...

How often do you read your friends list (e.g. daily, every other day, once a week, etc.)?
I aim at once a week - like I said above, sometimes a lack of spoons will get in the way, but I try my best!

You really enjoy reading about:
People's lives! I love getting a glimpse into how others live, what things are like in other corners of the world (pictures are always a bonus) and also reading views and perspectives I wouldn't otherwise get. Reading others' journals has opened my mind a lot and I have learned so much over the years.

You have very little interest in reading about:
Right-wing/conservative politics, anti-vax or anti-psychiatry/psychiatric med stuff, heavy on religious content. (I don't mind if the latter is a part of your life, what I mean is if most of your entries are about what happened at your last church/synagogue/mosque etc. visit because I wouldn't be able to relate.)

Also, while I have nothing against it at all, if your journal consists of nothing but fandom, I probably won't have anything to say unless I happen to know the fandom in question.

Your thoughts on journals that regularly include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc?
I like them.

When it comes to comments on your posts, what matters more -- quality or quantity?
What matters most is knowing you care about what I write and not just comment to comment. I don't mind if it's "just" a heart or an emoji, or one single line, or if you comment once a month or every time I update.

Do you unfriend people who don't comment much, even if you know they are reading you regularly?
No. I will unfriend somebody if they friend me but never comment or update (like, if a year or so passes and I don't even know who they are anymore). That doesn't apply if I know something happened in your life, obviously - real life takes precedence over online journalling. You won't have to fear "pressure" to update or comment in any way.

What is your approach when it comes to commenting on other journals?
I am not sure I understand what this means *blushes*

When you friend someone, but things don't really click, do you unfriend them without warning, or do you send them a note first? How do you prefer to be unfriended in similar circumstances?
Hmm, this happens rarely, tbh. I think I'd unfriend them without warning since I don't think messaging them would achieve anything. Sometimes I make a post if I do a bigger friends cut, but that's not focused on individuals. I would prefer to be quietly unfriended, myself.

AND LASTLY

Friending memes often ask people to list their favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., but more often than not, those aren't things people actually write about in their journal. Do you have any favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., that you DO often write about -- not necessarily in a fandom sort of way, just in general?
No particular ones except for the weekly Reading Post - and I make a small entry talking about books and movies of the month at the end of every month (you don't say).

Any final thoughts you'd like to share with potential new friends?
I am looking forward to meeting you! ♥

Is there an interesting story behind your username?

Yes. I ramble about it here )

Location and language(s): Eastern U.S.; English

Age range (e.g 20s, 30s, etc.): 60s

Hot button/deal breaker issues that will likely lead to unfriending:

Religious Proselytizing (particularly Christian), Normatively Abled People talking about Disabled family members or friends (discussions of curing disability), queer-phobic bigotry, racism, complaints about so-called "Political Correctness," or "being Woke," content created with generative A.I.

Do you have an "About Me" post new friends can read to get a sense of who you are, the people you talk about regularly, etc.?

Yes. It's the Sticky public post at the top of my journal. I update it maybe a few times a year.

Is your profile up-to-date or at all useful?

It's about ten years old. But everything there is still 90-ish% accurate. The communities I'm listed as a member of are mostly ghost towns.

List a few things you think it's important new friends know about you right away:

I'm physically disabled and fairly active in Disability Rights circles on Tumblr, and a big proponent of Self-Advocacy. I'm agnostic in theory, and atheist in practice (either way, my "religion" has a pantheon count of zero). I am prone to puns. I am a drabble purist. I am anti-generative A.I., though I acknowledge that analytical A.I. is different, and may have value in limited situations.

You mostly write about:

From my sticky!post: )

You never or very rarely write about:

Contemporary TV and Movies (though I enjoy critiques / reviews of the same)

Is your journal mostly public, locked, or a mix of public and locked? A mix.

Do you use filters for certain types of posts (e.g. fandom-related posts, or posts about sex, or mental health issues, etc.)?

Yes. My access filters could do with a refresh. When I refresh them, I generally make a post explaining what they are, so people can opt in.

Your posting frequency (e.g. daily, every few days, weekly, etc.):

Back in the LiveJournal days, I posted several times a week, sometimes, more than once a day, if a thought occurred to me. Recently, it's been a few times a year. I want to get back into my old time habits.

Does your journal frequently include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc? No. I'll occasionally post a music video if it's a song that I really like.

What do you enjoy most about journaling?

Getting my thoughts down a) before they evaporate, and b) where they can cross-pollinate with other people's thoughts.

How often do you read your friends list (e.g. daily, every other day, once a week, etc.)?

I check my Reading Page at least once a day. More often if I've got a conversation going in comment/reply threads.

You really enjoy reading about:

People's various creative pursuits, their pets, things they enjoy, the weather out the window, what they're reading, watching, listening to.

You have very little interest in reading about: Diet culture, fashion trends, weight loss, gym exploits

Your thoughts on journals that regularly include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc?

I don't mind them too much, but having to scroll past many looping GIFs is uncomfortable. If you post photos and videos, please include descriptions.

When it comes to comments on your posts, what matters more -- quality or quantity?

I love a comment thread that goes down a tangent trail. I love when one comment leads to another. Sometimes, too, a string of emojis can be a witty reply, if done well.

Do you unfriend people who don't comment much, even if you know they are reading you regularly? No.

What is your approach when it comes to commenting on other journals?

See my reply to the kind of comments I like to receive.

When you friend someone, but things don't really click, do you unfriend them without warning, or do you send them a note first? How do you prefer to be unfriended in similar circumstances?

I generally don't unsubscribe to people, unless they start posting or behaving in the "Hot Button Issue" ways I mentioned at the start. I'd prefer not to know if someone unsubscribes to me.

AND LASTLY

Friending memes often ask people to list their favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., but more often than not, those aren't things people actually write about in their journal. Do you have any favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., that you DO often write about -- not necessarily in a fandom sort of way, just in general?

I suppose fairy tales and folk tales count as "fannish"?

Any final thoughts you'd like to share with potential new friends? Nope.

Is there an interesting story behind your username?
Not really. I love dandies. It's also my username in most places.

Location and language(s):
America, New Jersey. English (both American and RP), and learning Italian. I dabbled in Latin but not much.

Age range (e.g 20s, 30s, etc.):
I'm forty-two. I tend to get along better with those who are older than I, particularly seniors.

Hot button/deal breaker issues that will likely lead to unfriending:
Minors (I prefer at least over twenty-one), depression and/or anxiety (posted regularly), bad self-esteem, life drama, recreational drugs, religion or politics (posted regularly), a lot of bad grammar and spelling (unless you're learning English), and frequent obscenities.

Do you have an "About Me" post new friends can read to get a sense of who you are, the people you talk about regularly, etc.?

https://dandylover1.dreamwidth.org/488.html

Is your profile up-to-date or at all useful?
Yes. It is up-to-date, and there is a lot of information about me there, as well as my Mastodon and Escargot.chat information.

List a few things you think it's important new friends know about you right away:
I have no time for political correctness, lies, or drama. While I always try to be civil during discussions, I share my opinion without reservations. If you are easily offended, please do not add me. I have a very dry and witty sense of humour. There are times when I don't read my friends' page for awhile, and I am trying to change that. I am totally blind, so if you mostly post images, I won't be able to comment on them, as I cannot see them.

You mostly write about:
Entries may consist of anything from short summaries of my day, to surveys, to essays on various topics, to interesting links and quotes that I find, along with my commentary on them. Lately, I have been writing reviews of opera recordings from the 1950's and earlier.

You never or very rarely write about:
Politics, modern celebrities or popular culture, world affairs, fandoms, video games, or mental health.

Is your journal mostly public, locked, or a mix of public and locked?
Public.

Do you use filters for certain types of posts (e.g. fandom-related posts, or posts about sex, or mental health issues, etc.)?
No, but if I post any adult content, I always put it behind a cut and age restrict it.

Your posting frequency (e.g. daily, every few days, weekly, etc.):
It varies, from a few posts in a given week to a few in a single day. Often, I post what I call filler entries toward the end of the month. These are entries posted on one date but for another. I try to post a few entries per week.

Does your journal frequently include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc?
No, though if you use the old definition of memes as surveys, I do enjoy those. I also post links to things that are related to the discussion in the entry, but they are not spam, nor am I affiliated with any companies.

What do you enjoy most about journaling?
I like sharing my world with others. I also enjoy reading past posts and seeing how much I've changed or remained the same, and perhaps revisiting some interests from my past or broadening my knowledge on various topics.

How often do you read your friends list (e.g. daily, every other day, once a week, etc.)?
I haven't read them in a long time, but now, I plan on doing so at least once a week, but I hope more often.

You really enjoy reading about:
People's daily lives, cooking, gardening, high culture (classical music, opera, fine cuisine, history, art, etc.), scientific discoveries, cats and pets in general, literature, poetry, antique menswear, nature, crafts, and the paranormal.

You have very little interest in reading about:
Mental health issues, fandom, visual things that I can't see i.e. a post of all images with no descriptions, politics, world affairs, video games, abuse, drugs, and constant family drama.

Your thoughts on journals that regularly include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc?
I am totally blind, so I couldn't appreciate most of them. I like surveys and links that are on topic or just interesting.

When it comes to comments on your posts, what matters more -- quality or quantity?
Quality. If you just say "hi" or "I like your entry", etc. that is meaningless. At the same time, it does show me that you are reading my journal, so if you haven't commented in awhile, even that would be acceptable.

Do you unfriend people who don't comment much, even if you know they are reading you regularly?
No, unless they don't post regularly and/or we never communicate elsewhere i.e. their journal.

What is your approach when it comes to commenting on other journals?
If I have something to say, I say it. If not, I just read and move on. I do wish there were like buttons here, if only so that we users could demonstrate that we've read something, even if we didn't comment on it.

When you friend someone, but things don't really click, do you unfriend them without warning, or do you send them a note first? How do you prefer to be unfriended in similar circumstances?
I usually unfriend without warning, unless we were friends for a while, or I feel I owe the person an explanation. I would expect the same from friends.

AND LASTLY
Friending memes often ask people to list their favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., but more often than not, those aren't things people actually write about in their journal. Do you have any favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., that you DO often write about -- not necessarily in a fandom sort of way, just in general?
Not that I can think of at the moment. I'm sure there are some, andmost likely, they are books.

Any final thoughts you'd like to share with potential new friends?
Just so you have an idea of what I like, my hobbies are studying dandyism, Received Pronunciation, the Regency, and the Italian language, reading, writing, cooking, baking, playing cards and dice, and enjoying warm weather. My Other Interests include coffees, teas, antique menswear and accessories (usually Edwardian), chamber and classical music, old opera singers, plants and gardening, crafts, and history and nature documentaries. I love wit, wordplay, and sarcastic humour without vulgarity. I am happily childfree and an atheist.

Is there an interesting story behind your username? I was in high school and thought "Author By Night" sounded so edgy. I realized about two or three years later that it was not, but it stuck, and even decades later, I haven't had the heart to change it. Although I do have a different username on tumblr.

Location and language(s): US (sigh, I know), and English.

Age range (e.g 20s, 30s, etc.): Early 40s.

Hot button/deal breaker issues that will likely lead to unfriending: Queerphobia, racism, sexism, the usual. Definitely no MAGA.

Do you have an "About Me" post new friends can read to get a sense of who you are, the people you talk about regularly, etc.? https://author-by-night.dreamwidth.org/260431.html

Is your profile up-to-date or at all useful? Not particularly.

List a few things you think it's important new friends know about you right away:

I take posts as conversation openers, so I do sometimes get chatty. That being said, I will always be mindful if I feel you're just venting or making a casual observation. But if you really use your DW as more of a diary and aren't looking for discussion, we might not click.

I'm also not really a "good vibes only" person; I don't think it's "negative" to have an opinion (as long as there's tact and care involved). That being said, I don't like bashing or nihilism, either. I call myself a cautious optimist.

You never or very rarely write about:

- I rarely do "daily life" posts. I talk about my personal life, but I don't really journal everything I did on a given day. I'll sometimes offer snippets I think are interesting or worth mentioning, though. I'm single and childless, I'm a bit of a homebody, there's not much "daily life" for me to say.

- Rarely talk about politics. I'm left-wing and deeply disturbed by the everything of everything, but I have other social media to panic/be depressed on.

Is your journal mostly public, locked, or a mix of public and locked?

Mostly locked.

Do you use filters for certain types of posts (e.g. fandom-related posts, or posts about sex, or mental health issues, etc.)?

No, but I do use cuts and trigger/content warnings. I'll also sometimes separate posts into two so that non-fandom people don't have to be bored by fandom posts.

Your posting frequency (e.g. daily, every few days, weekly, etc.): Varies. At least once a week, sometimes three or four times a week.

Does your journal frequently include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc? I do sometimes answer "random questions" (things I find on reddit and quora), but they're not really memes. I don't post the other items listed very often.

What do you enjoy most about journaling? I'm very much someone who thinks out loud, and journaling is a perfect outlet for that.

How often do you read your friends list (e.g. daily, every other day, once a week, etc.)? Daily.

You really enjoy reading about: Fannishness, thoughts on books/TV/movies etc., thoughts on life.

You have very little interest in reading about: I'm less interested in therapy journals. Nothing against people who use their journals for therapy, that's just not for me.

Your thoughts on journals that regularly include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc? They're fine, though if they're just links, photos and videos with no context, I don't always know how to comment.

When it comes to comments on your posts, what matters more -- quality or quantity? I don't want people to feel obligated to comment, but beyond that, you do you.

Do you unfriend people who don't comment much, even if you know they are reading you regularly? No.

What is your approach when it comes to commenting on other journals? As I said above, I tend to assume people want to hear my thoughts.

When you friend someone, but things don't really click, do you unfriend them without warning, or do you send them a note first? How do you prefer to be unfriended in similar circumstances? I usually don't say anything, or expect people to. Honestly, in my experience, explaining why you unfriended someone only results in more hurt feelings. There are exceptions, but where exceptions are concerned, I still believe in tact.

AND LASTLY

Friending memes often ask people to list their favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., but more often than not, those aren't things people actually write about in their journal. Do you have any favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., that you DO often write about -- not necessarily in a fandom sort of way, just in general?

Not a lot of my friends share my media interests, or are really into "meta" for specific shows. That being said, I talk a lot about books, movies and TV shows in general, which includes mentions of media I like. I also talk about fandom often, but again, in a more general way.

Shows I'd love to talk about more often include Schitt's Creek, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Heartstopper, Buffy, Our Flag Means Death.

I live in Ukraine. I write about what I see and feel — without embellishment.
My journal contains life stories, reflections shaped by the war, a bit of the past, a bit of the sea, a bit of silence.
Sometimes there are photos, sometimes just words.
If honesty, attentiveness, and depth resonate with you — maybe we'll connect

Is there an interesting story behind your username?
- My username reflects who I am in real life — a bit reserved, thoughtful, and always observing quietly.

Location and language(s):

- English, Ukrainian.

Age range (e.g. 20s, 30s, etc.):
- Age doesn’t matter — I value meaningful connection and people with depth.

List a few things you think it's important new friends know about you right away:
- I’m looking for kindred spirits — people who find meaning in words and emotion, and who might be interested in reading honest thoughts from someone who's seen both peace and war.

You mostly write about:
- Moments from my life, especially during the ongoing war in Ukraine.
My journal reflects my thoughts, feelings, and memories — of being a mariner, a traveler, and someone deeply affected by this time. I try to write with honesty and emotional clarity.
Posts are bilingual (English and Ukrainian), often paired with my own photographs that match the mood or setting.
Is your journal mostly public, locked, or a mix of public and locked?
It’s open. I have nothing to hide.

Your posting frequency (e.g. daily, every few days, weekly, etc.):
- It varies — sometimes daily, sometimes when I find the time or feel the need to share.

Does your journal frequently include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc?

- I mostly post my own photography — taken across different years and places.

Do you unfriend people who don't comment much, even if you know they are reading you regularly?

- No — I value silent readers too. I understand that not everyone feels like commenting all the time.

What is your approach when it comes to commenting on other journals?
- If something resonates, I’ll say something. I don’t force myself — I prefer sincere interaction.

When you friend someone, but things don't really click, do you unfriend them without warning, or do you send them a note first? How do you prefer to be unfriended in similar circumstances?
- I respect both ways. If it doesn't feel right — no hard feelings, with or without explanation.

Friending memes often ask people to list their favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., but more often than not, those aren't things people actually write about in their journal. Do you have any favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., that you DO often write about -- not necessarily in a fandom sort of way, just in general?
- I occasionally reflect on films or books that have emotionally moved me — like Pearl Harbor, My Name is Khan, or anything deeply human. I rarely write as a fan — more as someone who was touched.

Any final thoughts you'd like to share with potential new friends?
-If you value sincerity and emotion, if you’re looking to read thoughts that aren’t polished but real — you’re welcome in my journal.

Is there an interesting story behind your username?

My nickname has been Captain since I was in elementary school! “Cassidy” is half of my name, but not the name I use in my day-to-day since I came out as trans. :)

Location and language(s): USA, ENG

Age range (e.g 20s, 30s, etc.): Late 20s

Hot button/deal breaker issues that will likely lead to unfriending: Pro-censorship or “you can’t do xyz in fiction” people, often referred to as “antis” or “puritans.” I’m also a psyche student, so any anti-psychology, anti-science, anti-vaxx, etc. etc. is a major NO. Obviously no TERFs, Trumpers, right wing, fascists, yadda yadda. I’m queer, left-leaning, and sick of people making stupid claims about [insert hot button issue here]. If you’ve ever referred to an animanga as “p*do bait” or implied people who like certain animanga or kinks are predators, you won’t be welcome on my journal. (No issue if you personally dislike stuff, tho—I hate plenty of “problematic” kinks/story beats XD) Also, I’m not interested in interacting with people who make a disordered paraphilia their primary feature, or participate in communities geared towards it.

Do you have an "About Me" post new friends can read to get a sense of who you are, the people you talk about regularly, etc.?

Yup! So long as the link works — it’s right here!

Is your profile up-to-date or at all useful?

Should be!

List a few things you think it's important new friends know about you right away: Currently going through a rough time. I try to be positive but will occasionally vent or rant about my IRL issues. Some of that is locked to access-only, some is not—it just depends. I’m really looking for people to chat with semi-consistently, too, though it’s not an obligation. Just an “if we click” kinda thing. I’m still reeling from the world’s (and fandom’s) recent events, exoduses, and horrors.

You mostly write about: A mix of stuff! Games, movies, documentaries, and manga are all things I’ve recently posted about. I occasionally talk about personal stuff, too. I occasionally talk about RP despite not being able to consistently engage with it. Every great while I’ll post a quote from something I’m reading or watching, too.

You never or very rarely write about: I try to avoid getting really into politics or hot button issues, except for the occasional rant in access-only. Anything super NSFW is reserved for my AD account, too. I also don’t write stupid shit like callouts or “fake claiming” or gross, bullying stuff like that. :P

Is your journal mostly public, locked, or a mix of public and locked?

Mixed! Access is by request, if you pass the vibe check. XD My AD account is fully locked, but if you have access to my main you’re free to request access to that too. Enough of my stuff is public that you wouldn’t be missing much on my main.

Do you use filters for certain types of posts (e.g. fandom-related posts, or posts about sex, or mental health issues, etc.)?

Sometimes mental health, a lot more recently since I’ve been in a bad way, but I try to keep things related to what I’m doing/watching/reading. I don’t know what the current ratio is, but let’s say 70% fandom, 30% other stuff, ideally.

Your posting frequency (e.g. daily, every few days, weekly, etc.): Depends! I sometimes post a couple times a day, sometimes only once in two weeks. It just depends on how much energy I have.

Does your journal frequently include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc?

Sometimes! If I talk about a movie or manga I might post the cover art, or if I make something (like icons I made recently) then those will be visible. Photos maybe once in a while, if I do something IRL I kinda like (such as my old first attempts at clay sculpting).

What do you enjoy most about journaling?

Being personable without necessarily needing to be physically there. Community was always extremely important to me, and blogging/journaling makes me feel like I have some of it after so many years of communities getting ravaged by the last ten year’s worth of… whatever has been happening.

How often do you read your friends list (e.g. daily, every other day, once a week, etc.)?

Every time I remember the “read” page. Which is usually once or twice a week!

You really enjoy reading about: Fandom stuff, life stuff, community stuff… anything I feel I can relate to. Which, incidentally, is a lot.

You have very little interest in reading about: F/F or femslash—No shade, it’s just not my thing, so I’ll likely skip over journals that post lots of it! I’m also not super interested in reading about politics atm, with the exception of the occasional anti-censorship/pro-queer and kink stuff.

Your thoughts on journals that regularly include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc?

Link spam sounds like it would be annoying, but if it makes sense for the journal, I wouldn’t care. I’m fine with journals that include photos, memes, gifs, and videos! Gives me something to do in some cases. :>

When it comes to comments on your posts, what matters more -- quality or quantity?

Both, sort of? Due to where I am in life rn, it’s important to me that I feel like someone has read something I’ve said. So high-effort comments are awesome and beloved, but if you just send an emoji or a “same” or something silly once in a while, I appreciate that a lot, too. :)

Do you unfriend people who don't comment much, even if you know they are reading you regularly?

Nope! I don’t really care, as long as I like reading what they write/post. I might if I comment and routinely get ignored, though, as I would feel unwanted.

What is your approach when it comes to commenting on other journals?

I try to comment on a journal every time I pop in to write my own. I’ll tend to express agreement or ask questions, but I avoid coming in swinging if someone posts something I don’t “get” or disagree with. I’m generally really friendly and encouraging, because I want to see more of that in the world. :)

When you friend someone, but things don't really click, do you unfriend them without warning, or do you send them a note first? How do you prefer to be unfriended in similar circumstances?

I don’t really see the subscribing/unsubscribing quite the same as “friending,” or with high expectations. You’re free to unsub or sub freely, but if you do want to unsub and you have previously had access, please let me know! I will remove access, for my personal comfort. I guess I’m “FUB free,” if that’s the right term?

AND LASTLY

Friending memes often ask people to list their favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., but more often than not, those aren't things people actually write about in their journal. Do you have any favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., that you DO often write about -- not necessarily in a fandom sort of way, just in general?

I write about really obscure games/shows/books/etc. all the time! 90% of my fandoms/the stuff I write about are long-dead or ended series or extremely niche. My favorite anime of all time is Ginga Nagareboshi Gin (Silverfang Legend: Gin), I’m really into Resident Evil (mostly for Wesker, lmao), the Alien prequels, and a ton of random animanga/manhua/manwha! I’ll also occasionally wax poetic about MLP:FiM and (old) brony
culture, as well as (old) furry culture.

Any final thoughts you'd like to share with potential new friends?

I think I come off as pretty intense. I’m also very… wordy. I’m very much an individual with opinions, nearly unrestrained curiosity, and a strong sense of my own morals. That’s too much for people sometimes. But I hope to connect with people despite (or because of!) those things, and maybe regain a bit of that sense of community I lost after the tumblr exodus and it’s… ensuing effects on fandom/subcultures.

Took a while to put this together and since it's a bit long-ish, will introduce a cut a little bit towards the middle.

Is there an interesting story behind your username?
The serious answer is that it's a subtle reference to the line “Though she be but little, she is fierce” from Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream. My elementary school had a tradition of letting the 6th graders stage the play annually, so it holds a very special place in my heart.

The not-so-serious answer is because I am actually quite short. 4 feet and 10 3/4 inches is not totally unusual when you're Filipino, but my overseas friends are always surprised when they meet me in person because they did expect me to be taller somehow. 😅

Metro Manila, Philippines. I speak 3 languages: English, Tagalog and Ilonggo (both of which are Filipino languages). I am most comfortable writing in English, but when I'm speaking I tend to codeswitch quite a bit. Sometimes, if I cannot find a way to translate a word or a phrase, I'll use the word in it's original form and then try to explain it in parenthesis.

Age range (e.g 20s, 30s, etc.):
Late 30s bordering on 40s, not that anyone believes me when they see me. I still get mistaken for a college/post-grad student.

Hot button/deal breaker issues that will likely lead to unfriending:
It’s less hot button/deal breaker issues and more hot button/deal breaker behavior. Drama-baiting, rudeness to folks in the comment sections when you can just not engage, extremes from either end.

I am a believer in that respect is given, disrespect is earned. If you treat me with respect, openness and honesty, then we’re probably going to get on well because that’s how I operate. Also, I'm just at the age where I'm tired and I have few ducks left to give.

Do you have an "About Me" post new friends can read to get a sense of who you are, the people you talk about regularly, etc.?
I have a brief introductory post over here. It’s brief, but it covers the most important parts.

Is your profile up-to-date or at all useful?
I tend to keep my profile page simple and use it to direct folks to the intro post. But yes, it’s up-to-date.

List a few things you think it's important new friends know about you right away:
  • I'm bi/queer in a straight-presenting relationship. I’ve encountered folks who've taken issue with that, from either end of the spectrum, even if I’m not sure why it should be an issue.

  • I write reflections (or reference) my mental health journey and mental health in general quite a bit. I was diagnosed with C-PTSD a little over 5 years ago and while I've made loads of progress, the journey is an ongoing thing. Rest assured that I utilize cuts on my posts and include content warnings to those who want to skip over that.

  • I observe Friending/Unfriending Amnesty i.e. if you add me and decide that I'm not your cup of tea, all good, thank you for stopping by and giving connecting a shot. I’ve made longtime friends both here and previously on LiveJournal, but I also understand that some friendships have seasons or reasons before they naturally fade away.
