[sticky entry] Sticky: Friending Meme -- One with a difference!

Welcome to Finding Friends!

I've noticed several people using the this community's questions over on another friending community ([community profile] addme ), but without bothering to also post here.

I'm happy that people like our questions, but if you are planning on using them on other sites, please have the decency to 1) post here first and 2) give us credit for them on the other site.

Thank you.

Please select and copy the meme text in the textbox below. Create a NEW entry, paste in the copied text and fill in your answers.

Don't forget to read through the other entries to see if anyone catches your interest as a potential new friend. Reply to their entry directly and provide a link to your entry so that they can read about you. Have fun!

Hello There!

Is there an interesting story behind your username?

My nickname has been Captain since I was in elementary school! “Cassidy” is half of my name, but not the name I use in my day-to-day since I came out as trans. :)

Location and language(s): USA, ENG

Age range (e.g 20s, 30s, etc.): Late 20s

Hot button/deal breaker issues that will likely lead to unfriending: Pro-censorship or “you can’t do xyz in fiction” people, often referred to as “antis” or “puritans.” I’m also a psyche student, so any anti-psychology, anti-science, anti-vaxx, etc. etc. is a major NO. Obviously no TERFs, Trumpers, right wing, fascists, yadda yadda. I’m queer, left-leaning, and sick of people making stupid claims about [insert hot button issue here]. If you’ve ever referred to an animanga as “p*do bait” or implied people who like certain animanga or kinks are predators, you won’t be welcome on my journal. (No issue if you personally dislike stuff, tho—I hate plenty of “problematic” kinks/story beats XD) Also, I’m not interested in interacting with people who make a disordered paraphilia their primary feature, or participate in communities geared towards it.

Do you have an "About Me" post new friends can read to get a sense of who you are, the people you talk about regularly, etc.?

Yup! So long as the link works — it’s right here!

Is your profile up-to-date or at all useful?

Should be!

List a few things you think it's important new friends know about you right away: Currently going through a rough time. I try to be positive but will occasionally vent or rant about my IRL issues. Some of that is locked to access-only, some is not—it just depends. I’m really looking for people to chat with semi-consistently, too, though it’s not an obligation. Just an “if we click” kinda thing. I’m still reeling from the world’s (and fandom’s) recent events, exoduses, and horrors.

You mostly write about: A mix of stuff! Games, movies, documentaries, and manga are all things I’ve recently posted about. I occasionally talk about personal stuff, too. I occasionally talk about RP despite not being able to consistently engage with it. Every great while I’ll post a quote from something I’m reading or watching, too.

You never or very rarely write about: I try to avoid getting really into politics or hot button issues, except for the occasional rant in access-only. Anything super NSFW is reserved for my AD account, too. I also don’t write stupid shit like callouts or “fake claiming” or gross, bullying stuff like that. :P

Is your journal mostly public, locked, or a mix of public and locked?

Mixed! Access is by request, if you pass the vibe check. XD My AD account is fully locked, but if you have access to my main you’re free to request access to that too. Enough of my stuff is public that you wouldn’t be missing much on my main.

Do you use filters for certain types of posts (e.g. fandom-related posts, or posts about sex, or mental health issues, etc.)?

Sometimes mental health, a lot more recently since I’ve been in a bad way, but I try to keep things related to what I’m doing/watching/reading. I don’t know what the current ratio is, but let’s say 70% fandom, 30% other stuff, ideally.

Your posting frequency (e.g. daily, every few days, weekly, etc.): Depends! I sometimes post a couple times a day, sometimes only once in two weeks. It just depends on how much energy I have.

Does your journal frequently include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc?

Sometimes! If I talk about a movie or manga I might post the cover art, or if I make something (like icons I made recently) then those will be visible. Photos maybe once in a while, if I do something IRL I kinda like (such as my old first attempts at clay sculpting).

What do you enjoy most about journaling?

Being personable without necessarily needing to be physically there. Community was always extremely important to me, and blogging/journaling makes me feel like I have some of it after so many years of communities getting ravaged by the last ten year’s worth of… whatever has been happening.

How often do you read your friends list (e.g. daily, every other day, once a week, etc.)?

Every time I remember the “read” page. Which is usually once or twice a week!

You really enjoy reading about: Fandom stuff, life stuff, community stuff… anything I feel I can relate to. Which, incidentally, is a lot.

You have very little interest in reading about: F/F or femslash—No shade, it’s just not my thing, so I’ll likely skip over journals that post lots of it! I’m also not super interested in reading about politics atm, with the exception of the occasional anti-censorship/pro-queer and kink stuff.

Your thoughts on journals that regularly include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc?

Link spam sounds like it would be annoying, but if it makes sense for the journal, I wouldn’t care. I’m fine with journals that include photos, memes, gifs, and videos! Gives me something to do in some cases. :>

When it comes to comments on your posts, what matters more -- quality or quantity?

Both, sort of? Due to where I am in life rn, it’s important to me that I feel like someone has read something I’ve said. So high-effort comments are awesome and beloved, but if you just send an emoji or a “same” or something silly once in a while, I appreciate that a lot, too. :)

Do you unfriend people who don't comment much, even if you know they are reading you regularly?

Nope! I don’t really care, as long as I like reading what they write/post. I might if I comment and routinely get ignored, though, as I would feel unwanted.

What is your approach when it comes to commenting on other journals?

I try to comment on a journal every time I pop in to write my own. I’ll tend to express agreement or ask questions, but I avoid coming in swinging if someone posts something I don’t “get” or disagree with. I’m generally really friendly and encouraging, because I want to see more of that in the world. :)

When you friend someone, but things don't really click, do you unfriend them without warning, or do you send them a note first? How do you prefer to be unfriended in similar circumstances?

I don’t really see the subscribing/unsubscribing quite the same as “friending,” or with high expectations. You’re free to unsub or sub freely, but if you do want to unsub and you have previously had access, please let me know! I will remove access, for my personal comfort. I guess I’m “FUB free,” if that’s the right term?

AND LASTLY

Friending memes often ask people to list their favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., but more often than not, those aren't things people actually write about in their journal. Do you have any favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., that you DO often write about -- not necessarily in a fandom sort of way, just in general?

I write about really obscure games/shows/books/etc. all the time! 90% of my fandoms/the stuff I write about are long-dead or ended series or extremely niche. My favorite anime of all time is Ginga Nagareboshi Gin (Silverfang Legend: Gin), I’m really into Resident Evil (mostly for Wesker, lmao), the Alien prequels, and a ton of random animanga/manhua/manwha! I’ll also occasionally wax poetic about MLP:FiM and (old) brony
culture, as well as (old) furry culture.

Any final thoughts you'd like to share with potential new friends?

I think I come off as pretty intense. I’m also very… wordy. I’m very much an individual with opinions, nearly unrestrained curiosity, and a strong sense of my own morals. That’s too much for people sometimes. But I hope to connect with people despite (or because of!) those things, and maybe regain a bit of that sense of community I lost after the tumblr exodus and it’s… ensuing effects on fandom/subcultures.

hi, hi.

Took a while to put this together and since it's a bit long-ish, will introduce a cut a little bit towards the middle.

Is there an interesting story behind your username?
The serious answer is that it's a subtle reference to the line “Though she be but little, she is fierce” from Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream. My elementary school had a tradition of letting the 6th graders stage the play annually, so it holds a very special place in my heart.

The not-so-serious answer is because I am actually quite short. 4 feet and 10 3/4 inches is not totally unusual when you're Filipino, but my overseas friends are always surprised when they meet me in person because they did expect me to be taller somehow. 😅

Location and language(s):
Metro Manila, Philippines. I speak 3 languages: English, Tagalog and Ilonggo (both of which are Filipino languages). I am most comfortable writing in English, but when I'm speaking I tend to codeswitch quite a bit. Sometimes, if I cannot find a way to translate a word or a phrase, I'll use the word in it's original form and then try to explain it in parenthesis.

Age range (e.g 20s, 30s, etc.):
Late 30s bordering on 40s, not that anyone believes me when they see me. I still get mistaken for a college/post-grad student.

Hot button/deal breaker issues that will likely lead to unfriending:
It’s less hot button/deal breaker issues and more hot button/deal breaker behavior. Drama-baiting, rudeness to folks in the comment sections when you can just not engage, extremes from either end.

I am a believer in that respect is given, disrespect is earned. If you treat me with respect, openness and honesty, then we’re probably going to get on well because that’s how I operate. Also, I'm just at the age where I'm tired and I have few ducks left to give.

Do you have an "About Me" post new friends can read to get a sense of who you are, the people you talk about regularly, etc.?
I have a brief introductory post over here. It’s brief, but it covers the most important parts.

Is your profile up-to-date or at all useful?
I tend to keep my profile page simple and use it to direct folks to the intro post. But yes, it’s up-to-date.

List a few things you think it's important new friends know about you right away:
  • I'm bi/queer in a straight-presenting relationship. I’ve encountered folks who've taken issue with that, from either end of the spectrum, even if I’m not sure why it should be an issue.

  • I write reflections (or reference) my mental health journey and mental health in general quite a bit. I was diagnosed with C-PTSD a little over 5 years ago and while I've made loads of progress, the journey is an ongoing thing. Rest assured that I utilize cuts on my posts and include content warnings to those who want to skip over that.

  • I observe Friending/Unfriending Amnesty i.e. if you add me and decide that I'm not your cup of tea, all good, thank you for stopping by and giving connecting a shot. I’ve made longtime friends both here and previously on LiveJournal, but I also understand that some friendships have seasons or reasons before they naturally fade away.

    (no subject)

Is there an interesting story behind your username? It's three of my nicknames put together.... JAY, REGEE and JR.

Location and language(s): Ronco, PA.... Bad English

    Age range (e.g 20s, 30s, etc.): 45

Hot button/deal breaker issues that will likely lead to unfriending: Trump Supporters should not apply. No racist or homophobes either. I am gay so I rather not have people criticising me over too much drama in MY blog.

Do you have an "About Me" post new friends can read to get a sense of who you are, the people you talk about regularly, etc.? I really do not. I tend to be a little too open. So, you get to know me well sooner or later.

Is your profile up-to-date or at all useful? It's been rerrainged but the info is still the same.

List a few things you think it's important new friends know about you right away: I am gay, bipolar and suffer from shakes due to my medicine. I am not a recreational drug addict.

You mostly write about: My life, loves and fandoms/

You never or very rarely write about: posting disgusting images. I do not do that.

Is your journal mostly public, locked, or a mix of public and locked? All are friends locked because I had issues with relatives.

Do you use filters for certain types of posts (e.g. fandom-related posts, or posts about sex, or mental health issues, etc.)? I do not filter. I like it all out in the open.

Your posting frequency (e.g. daily, every few days, weekly, etc.): I like to post every few days but trying to get back to my daily routine.

Does your journal frequently include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc? I post whatever I want that pleases me. That means videos, pictures and memem can be found there from time to time.

What do you enjoy most about journaling? Getting issues out in the open and meeting those that care about a complete stranger.

How often do you read your friends list (e.g. daily, every other day, once a week, etc.)? Every day.

You really enjoy reading about: Whatever makes a friend tick.

You have very little interest in reading about: not sure... If you do disgusting art,, I rather not know about it.

Your thoughts on journals that regularly include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc? Gives me something to do.

When it comes to comments on your posts, what matters more -- quality or quantity? Quantity because all people make mistakes.

Do you unfriend people who don't comment much, even if you know they are reading you regularly? No I do not unfriend unless you unfriend me first.

What is your approach when it comes to commenting on other journals? I try my best...

When you friend someone, but things don't really click, do you unfriend them without warning, or do you send them a note first? How do you prefer to be unfriended in similar circumstances? I rarely unfriend but those I do rarely know I am missing.

    AND LASTLY

Friending memes often ask people to list their favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., but more often than not, those aren't things people actually write about in their journal. Do you have any favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., that you DO often write about -- not necessarily in a fandom sort of way, just in general? I do talk about these things a lot. I need a escape from the drama once in a while. LOL!!!

Any final thoughts you'd like to share with potential new friends?
Thank you for your future support.

    Hello new friends of 2025!!

Is there an interesting story behind your username? Not really. I dig the song, and I was in a future punk phase lol.

Location and language(s): Canada, English. Trying to learn Spanish.

    Age range (e.g 20s, 30s, etc.): Late 30s.

Hot button/deal breaker issues that will likely lead to unfriending: I will let you know when/if this becomes relevant. Outside of the general rule of trying your dang best to not be an asshole, I honestly try and give people a chance.

Do you have an "About Me" post new friends can read to get a sense of who you are, the people you talk about regularly, etc.? Yes, its the same post as my Friends Only post.

Is your profile up-to-date or at all useful? Absolutely useless, has nothing important in it at all except some interests. Check the friends only post, lol.

List a few things you think it's important new friends know about you right away: Genderfluid, living with mental illness & disabilities. I have really amazing people that I am working with and spent a lot of years working on it. Everything else will probably come in time?

You mostly write about: Day to day life, reflections, thoughts, plans, hopes, dreams. Things I'm working on, projects, interests.

You never or very rarely write about: Not much of a fandom person so probably not any fanfiction, fanart, or anything like that.

Is your journal mostly public, locked, or a mix of public and locked? Almost exclusively locked.

Do you use filters for certain types of posts (e.g. fandom-related posts, or posts about sex, or mental health issues, etc.)? I don't.

Your posting frequency (e.g. daily, every few days, weekly, etc.): It really fluctuates!

Does your journal frequently include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc? Not really. I might end up posting links to my vlogs and reaction channel when/if I ever get that up and running again, people are more than welcome to ignore it. May post a photo here and there but I haven't done a meme in a hot minute. Sometimes they're fun?

What do you enjoy most about journaling? Its a great way to document what is going on, release stress and let things out, and in a community journaling aspect its also a great way to connect with people on a deeper manner than what a lot of modern social media offers.

How often do you read your friends list (e.g. daily, every other day, once a week, etc.)? Every few days I try to check in.

You really enjoy reading about: What everyone is up to! Honestly, I just like getting to know what is going on in peoples lives, what they are doing, etc.

You have very little interest in reading about: shrugs. If something doesn't tickle me, I just move past it.

Your thoughts on journals that regularly include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc? Its fine for the most part. If its NOTHING but those things then I might have less interest as I want to find more connection and read about what's happening in peoples lives and the things they're up to. A little though, no problem. Sometimes memes and links and stuff help you get to know people more!

When it comes to comments on your posts, what matters more -- quality or quantity? Quality. Comment what you feel and however it rocks for you.

Do you unfriend people who don't comment much, even if you know they are reading you regularly? No.

What is your approach when it comes to commenting on other journals? If I have something to say, I say it.

When you friend someone, but things don't really click, do you unfriend them without warning, or do you send them a note first? How do you prefer to be unfriended in similar circumstances? Depends. If we don't click at all and hardly know one another then I will probably just unfriend. If we've gotten to know one another somewhat well and things are not clicking all of a sudden, then I might try and talk to them first.

    AND LASTLY

Friending memes often ask people to list their favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., but more often than not, those aren't things people actually write about in their journal. Do you have any favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., that you DO often write about -- not necessarily in a fandom sort of way, just in general? At the moment, not really. I might talk about some music I like or a show/movie I watched that I enjoyed if I feel like I have something to talk about regarding them but I can't think about anything in particular right now.

Any final thoughts you'd like to share with potential new friends? Hello, and I hope we can become friends!!

Seeking New Friends in New Year

Is there an interesting story behind your username?

My last initial and contraction of my first name, G. Remy, and you can call me Remy.

    Location and language(s):

    Central Texas, English.

    Age range (e.g 20s, 30s, etc.):

    40s

Hot button/deal breaker issues that will likely lead to unfriending:

Any triggering political post, and as I've gotten into trouble in the past discussing the subject. My ideology is all over the place, and I'm only open to other beliefs if they're expressed civilly.

Do you have an "About Me" post new friends can read to get a sense of who you are, the people you talk about regularly, etc.?

    Yes, here.

Is your profile up-to-date or at all useful?

    I think so.

List a few things you think it's important new friends know about you right away:

    I'm a high-IQ autistic and severely PTSD, so I cuss a lot.

    You mostly write about:

Video games, books, streaming television, movies, maybe politics since I've grown a pair and have tried to be more vocal in my beliefs.

You never or very rarely write about:

    Fashion, I guess?

Is your journal mostly public, locked, or a mix of public and locked?

    A combination of both.

Do you use filters for certain types of posts (e.g. fandom-related posts, or posts about sex, or mental health issues, etc.)?

    No.

Your posting frequency (e.g. daily, every few days, weekly, etc.):

    Daily, I guess.

Does your journal frequently include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc?

Yes, I try to include those.

What do you enjoy most about journaling?

Getting my unique autistic perspective off my chest.

How often do you read your friends list (e.g. daily, every other day, once a week, etc.)?

    Daily.

    You really enjoy reading about:

    New perspectives.

You have very little interest in reading about:

    Toxic politics.

Your thoughts on journals that regularly include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc?

I'm fine with those as long as the images aren't offensive or triggering.

When it comes to comments on your posts, what matters more -- quality or quantity?

    A combination of both.

Do you unfriend people who don't comment much, even if you know they are reading you regularly?

    No.

What is your approach when it comes to commenting on other journals?

I try to be firm but civil if I disagree with something.

When you friend someone, but things don't really click, do you unfriend them without warning, or do you send them a note first? How do you prefer to be unfriended in similar circumstances?

I unwatch their journal, but I may occasionally call them out via private note.

    AND LASTLY

Friending memes often ask people to list their favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., but more often than not, those aren't things people actually write about in their journal. Do you have any favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., that you DO often write about -- not necessarily in a fandom sort of way, just in general?

Yes, I am a huge Star Wars fan, as I think the franchise will always be relevant, and occasionally interlace my views, i.e. political, with analogies to the series. I also love RPGs and reviewing them.

Any final thoughts you'd like to share with potential new friends?

    I think I've covered everything.

    (no subject)

Is there an interesting story behind your username? Not really! I just needed a punny name, and this was the first one that came to mind. I think it fits me well because I'm a math nerd, I love things that are complex and weird and layered and contradictory, and I have an irreverent sense of humor.

Location and language(s): I am currently located in Los Angeles, and my first language is English. I am also semi-fluent in German and know a little bit of Spanish, Mandarin, and Yiddish.

    Age range (e.g 20s, 30s, etc.): 30s

Hot button/deal breaker issues that will likely lead to unfriending: Any kind of cruelty, mean-spiritedness, and/or bullying. Make no mistake, I'm not one to worry about making sure everyone feels nice and comfy all the time. There are times when discomfort and confrontation are good and necessary. My problem comes in when I get the sense that someone is getting off on it. Getting their jollies from shoving someone else's face in the dirt. Nothing makes me madder than a small, petty motherfucker on a power trip.

Do you have an "About Me" post new friends can read to get a sense of who you are, the people you talk about regularly, etc.? My most detailed existing "About Me" is from my DeviantArt, where I describe myself as a "Digital & occasionally traditional illustrator specializing in horror of the psychological, body, scifi, feminist, psychedelic, surreal, and existential varieties. Lover of filth and all things morbid." That should be enough to decide if you're intrigued or if we're not gonna click. If you're still reading, I will expand on that by saying I am also a writer (fanfic, poetry, and plays). I'm specifically interested in connecting with other fan artists and writers on this site, particularly older folks (30+) in smaller and more obscure fandoms. I have a background in academic philosophy and do a lot of philosophy-posting as well as fandom meta that draws on philosophy. I'm a SFF nerd, with a strong bias toward the scifi end of the spectrum. My favorite scifi subgenres are anything psychological that deals with identity (I'm very partial to all manner of robots, androids, AI, replicants, clones, computer-based minds, and the like) and spacetime fuckery. Most of my more fantasy-geared interests are related to D&D. I am ALWAYS down to play D&D, if any of you run oneshots or campaigns over Discord! I also love Brazilian jiu-jitsu and train five or six times a week, so you will probably hear me talk about that a lot! I don't really pay attention to it at the professional level, though, so you won't hear me talk much about that - just my own training.

Is your profile up-to-date or at all useful? Yup

List a few things you think it's important new friends know about you right away: I am neurodivergent (shocker, on this site!?), specifically ADHD inattentive type with some pretty serious executive dysfunction issues that I work really hard on. Sometimes that can make me come off flaky or unreliable, but I am absolutely not. I can be flighty as an acquaintance, but once we are officially FRIENDS, I am absolutely ride-or-die. I struggle with mood stability and go through up periods and down periods. When I'm depressed, I can be quite whiny and wallowing, but I have developed a lot of skills for avoiding and getting out of those pits, and I'm continuing to work on it. I'm generally in a good place these days, but occasionally things can throw me off balance for a minute. I definitely don't make my negativity anyone else's problem during these times, but sometimes I will vent on my blog about feeling crappy and be kind of useless for a few days until I straighten myself out.

You mostly write about: Existential stuff. Sad stuff. Difficult stuff. Bittersweet stuff. How to go on existing in a world that's full of horrors. People dealing with (or not dealing with) the darkness inside themselves. People who become better. People who become worse. People who find connection with each other. People who try and fail. People who fall into dark pits and climb back out of them, and people who fall in and never get out. Understanding them. Understanding the world we live in. Bearing witness. Appreciating beauty. Coming to terms. Finding peace. Making a path for oneself.

You never or very rarely write about: Domestic bliss, uncomplicated romance

Is your journal mostly public, locked, or a mix of public and locked? A mix. I usually lock stuff that is more personal just because I figure people who aren't following already won't be particularly interested in the picayune of my inner life.

Do you use filters for certain types of posts (e.g. fandom-related posts, or posts about sex, or mental health issues, etc.)? No

Your posting frequency (e.g. daily, every few days, weekly, etc.): Not sure. If I make some real friendships on here, I will probably be around more regularly than if I'm just occasionally going back and forth with friendly acquaintances. Probably 1-2 times a week currently, but that could change up in the future.

Does your journal frequently include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc? No. Maybe the occasional photo, but it's mostly text so far.

What do you enjoy most about journaling? The possibility that there might be people who are interested in my life and things I have to say.

How often do you read your friends list (e.g. daily, every other day, once a week, etc.)? Every day or two

You really enjoy reading about: Certain types of fandom meta (I'm a sucker for a deep analysis, especially character analysis, ESPECIALLY underappreciated character analysis), philosophy, ideas in general, humor, psychology, theory, just overall humanities nerd shit as well as some STEM nerd shit.

You have very little interest in reading about: Some aspects of politics. I am past a point of caring about, "OMG did you hear what Trump said?!" I am interested in following bigger-picture stuff, but the petty day-to-day drama wears me the fuck out, and I'm over it.

Your thoughts on journals that regularly include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc? I haven't been around here long enough to really appreciate what any of that means. I'll have to figure it out as I go. I don't know what "linkspam" is but I don't like the word "spam" being in there. And if you post a video, I probably won't watch it unless you really hook me with your lead-in (unless I've gotten to know you well enough to know you always post gold).

When it comes to comments on your posts, what matters more -- quality or quantity? Quality

Do you unfriend people who don't comment much, even if you know they are reading you regularly? No

What is your approach when it comes to commenting on other journals? If I have something to say, I say it.

When you friend someone, but things don't really click, do you unfriend them without warning, or do you send them a note first? How do you prefer to be unfriended in similar circumstances? It depends. If things just never took off with us and we've had zero interactions for months, I'll probably do a quiet unfriend.

    AND LASTLY

Friending memes often ask people to list their favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., but more often than not, those aren't things people actually write about in their journal. Do you have any favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., that you DO often write about -- not necessarily in a fandom sort of way, just in general? The things listed under my interests are the things you can probably expect me to talk about at some point or other. List is subject to change, but currently includes: Alien, Blade Runner, Claire North, C.J. Cherryh, David Cronenberg, Dark, Dimension 20, The Expanse, Gillian Flynn, Junji Ito, Naoki Urasawa's Monster, Ted Chiang, and The OA. I will probably talk about lots of books, movies, and shows as I read/watch them.

Any final thoughts you'd like to share with potential new friends? My favorite quote from my favorite book, The Ethics of Ambiguity by Simone de Beauvoir:

"Morality resides in the painfulness of an indefinite questioning...what distinguishes the tyrant from the man of good will is that the first rests in the certainty of his aims, whereas the second keeps asking himself, 'Am I really working for the liberation of all men? Isn't this end contested by the sacrifices through which I aim at it?'"

    Hi!

Is there an interesting story behind your username? I'm a binturong therian. :P

Location and language(s): USA, English, learning Spanish. I will be moving to Central America soon.

    Age range (e.g 20s, 30s, etc.) mid 20s.

Hot button/deal breaker issues that will likely lead to unfriending: I am pro-Palestine, pro-trans women, and against all forms of bigotry. I am also against censorship of and harassment over fiction. If you disagree, I don't necessarily know if my journal is the place for you... sorry.

Do you have an "About Me" post new friends can read to get a sense of who you are, the people you talk about regularly, etc.? I sort of do? I really should make an in-depth one, one of these days, but I already post a lot and I don't want to spam people's reading pages...

Is your profile up-to-date or at all useful? Sorta. It's kind of brief.

List a few things you think it's important new friends know about you right away:
    1) I'm a plural system, so I have memory loss & other alters post here too
    2) I'm neurodivergent sometimes I act odd or don't get social cues/misunderstand things
    3) I'm half a fandom journal and half a personal one, and I have some darker fictional interests
    4) I talk about spiritual stuff & being a psychic medium sometimes, it is real to me. I understand skepticism but please, don't be rude about this.

You mostly write about: My life, my creative work, complaining, fictosexuality & alterhumanity, plurality, disability justice, fandom stuff, spirituality

You never or very rarely write about: Triggering content that isn't warned for and under a cut; uhhh other than that you might see anything. I try not to post "discourse" or arguments/controversial topics though. But I am an opinionated person so sometimes it does slip through.

Is your journal mostly public, locked, or a mix of public and locked? It is access locked.

Do you use filters for certain types of posts (e.g. fandom-related posts, or posts about sex, or mental health issues, etc.)? No.

Your posting frequency (e.g. daily, every few days, weekly, etc.): I post at the very least every week.

Does your journal frequently include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc? Eh sorta. I post photography sometimes. I want to start posting linkspams of things I find interesting. I also post memes sometimes.

What do you enjoy most about journaling?  I like how private it can be while still giving me the ability to interact with others. I like how it gives me the ability to make connections with people that feel more genuine and personal than connections made on mainstream internet websites. Everyone is so nice!

How often do you read your friends list (e.g. daily, every other day, once a week, etc.)? I check my reading page multiple times a day. I'm trying to make DW my main platform so I'm on here a lot... :')

You really enjoy reading about: Any kind of fandom thoughts, any kind of stuff about an individual's creative work, deep thoughts

You have very little interest in reading about: Just anything closed-minded

Your thoughts on journals that regularly include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc? ...You do you?

When it comes to comments on your posts, what matters more -- quality or quantity? I  don't care I just like hearing from people!

Do you unfriend people who don't comment much, even if you know they are reading you regularly? No! Comments are optional for me. While I enjoy them, I just like talking on here in general, it's not a requirement.

What is your approach when it comes to commenting on other journals? I don't know... I just try to be respectful? Is there a particular approach I should have? I'm still kinda new here :')

When you friend someone, but things don't really click, do you unfriend them without warning, or do you send them a note first? How do you prefer to be unfriended in similar circumstances? I don't usually tell people unless they ask for it. I don't care if people tell me or not. I would prefer to know, so I don't forget in the future and add you back, but it's whatever.

    AND LASTLY

Friending memes often ask people to list their favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., but more often than not, those aren't things people actually write about in their journal. Do you have any favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., that you DO often write about -- not necessarily in a fandom sort of way, just in general?

Yeah. I frequently post about: The Orville, Babylon 5, Doom Patrol.

Any final thoughts you'd like to share with potential new friends?

I'd love to meet anyone who isn't put off by any of the above and make new friends!!!

    (no subject)

Is there an interesting story behind your username? not exactly. it's a lyric from a coathangers song. they used to be my favorite band and this was one of my favorite songs on my first favorite album of theirs. i learned to play a lot of their songs on bass including this one. i have barely listened to them in years tho.

Location and language(s): the states. currently in socal but often stay in the pnw and also lived in austin texas for a while. i post in english, i would be interested to read entries in spanish tho if there are any spanish speakers on here.

Age range (e.g 20s, 30s, etc.): i'm in my thirties but i don't mind others' ages.

Hot button/deal breaker issues that will likely lead to unfriending: idk. does this mean politics? i'm an anarchist. i find liberals equally and sometimes more annoying than other conservatives lol so there aren't really any issues that bother me more than others. they all bother me.

Do you have an "About Me" post new friends can read to get a sense of who you are, the people you talk about regularly, etc.? i do not but perhaps i should.

Is your profile up-to-date or at all useful?: it doesn't have much info either. i am not necessarily a private person just not trying to publicly dox myself before even adding someone.

List a few things you think it's important new friends know about you right away: i have a toddler. my co-parent is a drug user. we are both trans.

You mostly write about: life stuff. typically just what i've been up to but also about my toxic relationship sometimes which can be pretty intense and probably triggering for some.

You never or very rarely write about: current events. my sex life (though i would like to, i would probably want to have a different journal or place for that). idk media or pop culture stuff. i do pay attention to these things i just don't write about them here.

Is your journal mostly public, locked, or a mix of public and locked?: locked

Do you use filters for certain types of posts (e.g. fandom-related posts, or posts about sex, or mental health issues, etc.)?: no

Your posting frequency (e.g. daily, every few days, weekly, etc.): aiming for weekly but it has been more seldom than that lately.

Does your journal frequently include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc?: photos sometimes

What do you enjoy most about journaling?: trying to get my thoughts in order or just express them. reading about other people's lives.

How often do you read your friends list (e.g. daily, every other day, once a week, etc.)?: usually a few times a week

You really enjoy reading about: just other people's everyday stuff or their thoughts on things, even if it's not a topic i'm necessarily interested in. i like learning.

You have very little interest in reading about: fandom stuff

Your thoughts on journals that regularly include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc?: i don't mind. i like an active friends page and i can skip it if it's annoying.

When it comes to comments on your posts, what matters more -- quality or quantity?: quality. i hate getting "sorry that happened" "glad you're okay" comments on every single entry. i understand some people are neurodivergent and to them those are nice things to say but i am neurodivergent and to me those are not nice things to say.

Do you unfriend people who don't comment much, even if you know they are reading you regularly?: no but i do delete people that stop updating after a long while.

What is your approach when it comes to commenting on other journals?: i usually only comment if i feel i have something useful to say, or if they said something thought provoking that i want to engage with.

When you friend someone, but things don't really click, do you unfriend them without warning, or do you send them a note first? How do you prefer to be unfriended in similar circumstances?: i usually just leave them on my journal, i don't think i've ever unfriended someone for not being bffs, and i don't think anyone has given me a heads up for unfriending me. if someone wants to that's fine but i don't mind being ghosted.

    AND LASTLY
Friending memes often ask people to list their favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., but more often than not, those aren't things people actually write about in their journal. Do you have any favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., that you DO often write about -- not necessarily in a fandom sort of way, just in general?: nah

Any final thoughts you'd like to share with potential new friends?: i would love to add other gays, anarchists or even leftists, vegans, poc, current of former drug users etc. i don't always write about those assets of my identity but they obviously inform my worldview as my positionality in society marginalizes me in some kinds of ways.

    Seeking new friends...

Since my friends list is becoming a wasteland...

Is there an interesting story behind your username? A play on my first name.

Location and language(s): Central Texas, English

Age range (e.g 20s, 30s, etc.): Turned 40 this January.

Hot button/deal breaker issues that will likely lead to unfriending: Politics. While I think I'm more open-minded than before, I far more prefer discussion focused solely on issues and events rather than politicians than groups, and am very sensitive about the rhetoric used.

Do you have an "About Me" post new friends can read to get a sense of who you are, the people you talk about regularly, etc.? Yes, my sticky journal header and my recent political posts so you can get an idea of how I like to discuss politics and current events.

Is your profile up-to-date or at all useful? Up-to-date regarding my interests, and I'll try to work on a new bio, but I'm super ADHD now and need to find the time.

List a few things you think it's important new friends know about you right away: I'm a high-functioning autistic who has faced severe psychological abuse from my family and am trying to get out of my toxic household.

You mostly write about: What grinds my gears at the moment.

You never or very rarely write about: Things I don't care about.

Is your journal mostly public, locked, or a mix of public and locked? Mixed.

Do you use filters for certain types of posts (e.g. fandom-related posts, or posts about sex, or mental health issues, etc.)? I don't use filters, but with political posts, I try to include a "trigger warning" in the subject.

Your posting frequency (e.g. daily, every few days, weekly, etc.): Depends upon how I feel, since I'm at a juncture in my life and need to get my mind in order.

Does your journal frequently include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc? It depends.

What do you enjoy most about journaling? Being able to say what I want and discussing my views with people who are like-minded.

How often do you read your friends list (e.g. daily, every other day, once a week, etc.)? I try to do so daily.

You really enjoy reading about: Anything that piques my interests.

You have very little interest in reading about: Things that trigger me.

Your thoughts on journals that regularly include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc? I don't mind as long as they don't trigger me.

When it comes to comments on your posts, what matters more -- quality or quantity? A mixture of both.

Do you unfriend people who don't comment much, even if you know they are reading you regularly? No.

What is your approach when it comes to commenting on other journals? I try to be diplomatic and as civil as possible, even when I disagree with others' opinions.

When you friend someone, but things don't really click, do you unfriend them without warning, or do you send them a note first? How do you prefer to be unfriended in similar circumstances? If something they say triggers me, I try to indicate they upset me yet be as diplomatic as possible and just unwatch them while letting them still comment in my journal.

Friending memes often ask people to list their favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., but more often than not, those aren't things people actually write about in their journal. Do you have any favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., that you DO often write about -- not necessarily in a fandom sort of way, just in general? I have a lot of favorites but tend only to write about them in intelligent reviews.

Any final thoughts you'd like to share with potential new friends? As long as you aren't mean in how you express your views or to me, we can definitely be friends.

    Hello!

Is there an interesting story behind your username?
My username came from more of a reflection, gloom and rainbows is a reflection of my almost ever-present optimism amid the darker backdrop of my mental health, traumatic experiences and sense of humour - some of which I write about (with filters.) I may change it in the future, but for now I'm okay with it.

    Location and language(s):
    England/English
    American/English

    Age range (e.g 20s, 30s, etc.):
I'm open to anyone over 20+ for friends, I am currently in my 40s.

Hot button/deal breaker issues that will likely lead to unfriending:
Racism, sexism, fatphobia, and right wing political viewpoints.

Do you have an "About Me" post new friends can read to get a sense of who you are, the people you talk about regularly, etc.?
I have a bit about me on my profile, but not a specific post about it.

Is your profile up-to-date or at all useful?
    Pretty up to date.

List a few things you think it's important new friends know about you right away:
My posting can be sporadic, but I do tend to log in to read people's journals and leave comments - even if it's just to let you know I'm stopping by. Sometimes I don't know what to say and socially I feel friendly but quite awkward at times.

    You mostly write about:
My day to day experiences, travel, my hobbies, and reflections about the state of my mental health and emotions

You never or very rarely write about:
    Fandoms, fiction

Is your journal mostly public, locked, or a mix of public and locked?
    Friends only

Do you use filters for certain types of posts (e.g. fandom-related posts, or posts about sex, or mental health issues, etc.)?
I do use cuts for content that I think may make people uncomfortable, plus some filters for sensitivity/privacy of posts

Your posting frequency (e.g. daily, every few days, weekly, etc.):
    Sporadically but semi-regularly

Does your journal frequently include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc?
Photos mostly and an occasional meme

What do you enjoy most about journaling?
Getting the thoughts out of my head and into a post, sharing my experiences and connecting with others

How often do you read your friends list (e.g. daily, every other day, once a week, etc.)?
If I'm honest probably once a week or so, but I'd like to more.

    You really enjoy reading about:
What's on people's mind, what are you up to? Let's hear about your special interests and experiences

You have very little interest in reading about:
    I'm pretty open actually.

Your thoughts on journals that regularly include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc?
I'm okay with it, except for if it's literal spam.

When it comes to comments on your posts, what matters more -- quality or quantity?
I just enjoy when people feel like they can interact and want to respond, I'm not keeping tracking of quantity but it's nice to know people are reading.

Do you unfriend people who don't comment much, even if you know they are reading you regularly?
    No

What is your approach when it comes to commenting on other journals?
I try to comment when I have something to say, and occasionally will just to let people know I'm still around and reading - if I can't think of what to say

When you friend someone, but things don't really click, do you unfriend them without warning, or do you send them a note first? How do you prefer to be unfriended in similar circumstances?
Feel free to unfriend me at any time, if you're just not feeling it.

    AND LASTLY
Friending memes often ask people to list their favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., but more often than not, those aren't things people actually write about in their journal. Do you have any favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., that you DO often write about -- not necessarily in a fandom sort of way, just in general?
Nope. Occasionally I may list what I'm reading or watching but that's about it.

Any final thoughts you'd like to share with potential new friends?
Looking forward to meeting some new friends here, and hope you're having a good day!

    (no subject)

    THE MEME

Is there an interesting story behind your username?
"Coco" is part of the nickname "Coconut" that I've had since 12 or 13 years old. "Smiley" is my mom's nickname from her childhood. "Boo" is a nickname my mom gave me when I was a little girl.

    Location and language(s):
    American/Americanized English.

    Age range (e.g 20s, 30s, etc.):
I don't have any real age range limit, just be 18 years or older because I don't censor my journal. I myself am 35 years old.

Hot button/deal breaker issues that will likely lead to unfriending:
Just don't be an asshole and we'll be fine.

Do you have an "About Me" post new friends can read to get a sense of who you are, the people you talk about regularly, etc.?
I was thinking about writing one.

Is your profile up-to-date or at all useful?
It's a few years outdated. I might go fix it up some.

List a few things you think it's important new friends know about you right away:
I'm trying to be more active on here. That includes reading my friends page and commenting where I see fit, but definitely more often!

    You mostly write about:
    My life in general.

You never or very rarely write about:
There isn't much that is "off limits" with me.

Is your journal mostly public, locked, or a mix of public and locked?
    Friends Only

Do you use filters for certain types of posts (e.g. fandom-related posts, or posts about sex, or mental health issues, etc.)?
I try to keep my filters/tags organized.

Your posting frequency (e.g. daily, every few days, weekly, etc.):
Randomly when I feel like posting.

Does your journal frequently include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc?
It can... and might in the future. I miss posting a lot, so I don't like limiting myself in content.

What do you enjoy most about journaling?
Being able to say what I want. Also helps decompress for my mental health and reexamine things that happened and whatnot.

How often do you read your friends list (e.g. daily, every other day, once a week, etc.)?
I'm going to try for once a week, but I would like to check in daily. We'll see what I manage.

    You really enjoy reading about:
There isn't much I don't enjoy reading. I like making connections with people, though.

You have very little interest in reading about:
    Fandoms I haven't heard of.

Your thoughts on journals that regularly include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc?
Depends on the content, I suppose.

When it comes to comments on your posts, what matters more -- quality or quantity?
Both matter equally to me! If you don't think what you has to say has any importance, post it anyway because I value whatever you have to say!

Do you unfriend people who don't comment much, even if you know they are reading you regularly?
    Nope.

What is your approach when it comes to commenting on other journals?
I comment when I have something to say.

When you friend someone, but things don't really click, do you unfriend them without warning, or do you send them a note first? How do you prefer to be unfriended in similar circumstances?
I don't know... I don't usually unfriend people unless I notice they have unfriended me first.

    AND LASTLY

Friending memes often ask people to list their favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., but more often than not, those aren't things people actually write about in their journal. Do you have any favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., that you DO often write about -- not necessarily in a fandom sort of way, just in general?
Sometimes I will mention things I am reading/watching/listening to... but it's not the focus of my journal. But for example, right now I am reading about 20 books (no really) on my Kindle, watching The Vampire Diaries (one episode a night at dinnertime with my fiancé), and listening to the Run Fool! podcast on Spotify. Music, I listen to pretty much everything except gospel.

Any final thoughts you'd like to share with potential new friends?
I'm a nice person looking to make connections... friends, really. That being said, remember to hydrate!

    Hi there!

Is there an interesting story behind your username?
BewilderedBird just stems from the fact that I like birds and I often feel very confused about the state of the world. Marin is the first "real" and actually developed character I ever came up with when I was ten and her name became my nick name.

    Location and language(s):
Germany | German and English, I hope to learn more one day

    Age range (e.g 20s, 30s, etc.):
    30s (35)

Hot button/deal breaker issues that will likely lead to unfriending:
Being extremely political (left or right or whatever), discriminatory in any way. Generally being an asshole. We can talk about anything, just be civil about it.

Do you have an "About Me" post new friends can read to get a sense of who you are, the people you talk about regularly, etc.?
    Yes, just made one!

Is your profile up-to-date or at all useful?
Don't know if it's useful but it should be up-to-date.

List a few things you think are important new friends know about you right away:
    See my intro post:
    - Mostly asexual, so not interested in explicit NSFW stuff, but anything romantic, nudity included, is fine
    - Non-political as I see Dreamwidth as a refuge from the horrors of the world.
    - I dealt with severe depression and anxiety during my teenage and early adult years and while it got a lot better it still affects me in certain situations and so might be a topic I write about

    You mostly write about:
I write more about my personal view on things, art, life as it happens and about memories than I do about fandoms or entertainment in general.

You never or very rarely write about:
    Politics, fandoms.

Is your journal mostly public, locked, or a mix of public and locked?
For now everything is public but I might lock posts in the future if I feel they contain information I don't want out in the open.

Do you use filters for certain types of posts (e.g. fandom-related posts, or posts about sex, or mental health issues, etc.)?
If I delve deep into mental health or any other topics that I believe people might want to avoid, I will use cuts. Other than that, not really.

Your posting frequency (e.g. daily, every few days, weekly, etc.):
Every few days if I'm in a very good mood, otherwise weekly.

Does your journal frequently include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc?
    No.

What do you enjoy most about journaling?
Taking the time to formulate your thoughts. Social media trained us to be fast, to never have time for anything, to have a short attention span. Journaling is the exact opposite and I feel like it's meditation for the brain sometimes. You simply get to know yourself better.

How often do you read your friends list (e.g. daily, every other day, once a week, etc.)?
    Daily.

    You really enjoy reading about:
Just the lives of different people, what others enjoy, what they avoid, what their hobbies are, their dreams and wishes, their fears, their achievements and their thoughts about life. And if there's art or general creativity involved in any capacity, I enjoy that even more.

You have very little interest in reading about:
    Politics, fandoms.

Your thoughts on journals that regularly include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc?
Not my cup of tea if that's all there is. I love memes, photos, etc, but I don't want to be bombarded.

When it comes to comments on your posts, what matters more -- quality or quantity?
Quality. But if you just have a one-word-comment because you can't think of anything, that's completely fine.

Do you unfriend people who don't comment much, even if you know they are reading you regularly?
No, never. Please don't feel pressured into commenting. If you just enjoy reading, that makes me so happy.

What is your approach when it comes to commenting on other journals?
I'm very introverted and have a hard time being social, although it got a lot better over the past years. But more often than not, I don't really know what to add to a topic. I read every entry though!

When you friend someone, but things don't really click, do you unfriend them without warning, or do you send them a note first? How do you prefer to be unfriended in similar circumstances?
If we had a good relationship beforehand, I will write a note but if we never really interacted I will just unfriend. You can handle that in any way you prefer. No judgment.

Friending memes often ask people to list their favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., but more often than not, those aren't things people actually write about in their journal. Do you have any favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., that you DO often write about -- not necessarily in a fandom sort of way, just in general?
I only write about media if it impacts me and even then maybe once or twice and that's it. My hyper hyper fandom phase is behind me.

Any final thoughts you'd like to share with potential new friends?
If you are very shy or anxious but still want to add me, don't feel the need to comment here. Just go ahead and I'll take a look at your profile and posts to see if I'll add you back :)

Seeking New Friends in New Year

Is there an interesting story behind your username?
The G. is the first letter of my last name, the Remy is a contraction of my first name, and G. Remy is a play on my legal first name Jeremy.

    Location and language(s):
    Central Texas, English

    Age range (e.g 20s, 30s, etc.):
Late 30s, to turn early 40s later this month.

Hot button/deal breaker issues that will likely lead to unfriending:
Politics, depending upon how it's discussed. I very much prefer intelligent discourse focused far more on issues and events than singling out individuals and groups, void of gaslighting or invalidation.

Do you have an "About Me" post new friends can read to get a sense of who you are, the people you talk about regularly, etc.?
    Yes, here, though it's friends-locked.

Is your profile up-to-date or at all useful?
Yes, I think it's reasonably detailed.

List a few things you think it's important new friends know about you right away:
I'm a high-functioning autistic with traces of post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, ADHD, OCD, and so forth, and I do swear a lot and use some sexual verbiage in my posts.

    You mostly write about:
What's been happing during my days, updates on what video games I've been playing, review on whatever video games I beat, book reviews, television show reviews, movie reviews, posts featuring anthropomorphic art I've done myself or commissioned, and so forth.

You never or very rarely write about:
I try to stray away from politics, but if it's a really controversial subject, I likely will include a "trigger warning."

Is your journal mostly public, locked, or a mix of public and locked?
Personal posts are locked, although my various reviews are public.

Do you use filters for certain types of posts (e.g. fandom-related posts, or posts about sex, or mental health issues, etc.)?
    No, everything is fair game.

Your posting frequency (e.g. daily, every few days, weekly, etc.):
Mostly daily, depending upon how busy I am.

Does your journal frequently include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc?
I do include images in my posts, but mostly of things from YouTube or artwork I've either done or commissioned.

What do you enjoy most about journaling?
Sharing my unique mindset with the world

How often do you read your friends list (e.g. daily, every other day, once a week, etc.)?
    As often as I can.

    You really enjoy reading about:
Things that pique my interest and generally aren't triggering.

You have very little interest in reading about:
Probably politics, especially if uncivilly discussed.

Your thoughts on journals that regularly include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc?
I don't mind, as long as they aren't offensive.

When it comes to comments on your posts, what matters more -- quality or quantity?
    A combination of both.

Do you unfriend people who don't comment much, even if you know they are reading you regularly?
    I generally don't do so.

What is your approach when it comes to commenting on other journals?
I try to remain civil and intelligent.

When you friend someone, but things don't really click, do you unfriend them without warning, or do you send them a note first? How do you prefer to be unfriended in similar circumstances?
I would probably send them a civil Dear John note, and I would appreciate the same in return, as long as said person was nice about it.

    AND LASTLY

Friending memes often ask people to list their favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., but more often than not, those aren't things people actually write about in their journal. Do you have any favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., that you DO often write about -- not necessarily in a fandom sort of way, just in general?
I don't write frequently on specific shows, movies, or books unless I'm reviewing them.

Any final thoughts you'd like to share with potential new friends?
None, I look forward to interacting with you all and making new friends.

Is there an interesting story behind your username?

Not really, my original theme was pink, and it fit roses, and faeries, and nymphs!

    Location and language(s):

    English, USA, Texas

    Age range (e.g 20s, 30s, etc.):

    Late 20s, Early 30s ; 28

Hot button/deal breaker issues that will likely lead to unfriending:

Being a huge ass. Being judgemental. As well as being anti Queer/Trans Rights. I am with a woman, and I believe everyone should be treated like a person. No, you cannot change my mind. As well, anyone who is bigoted in any way. Just... don't be an asshole!!

Do you have an "About Me" post new friends can read to get a sense of who you are, the people you talk about regularly, etc.?

I have a sticky tag post with my interests!!

Is your profile up-to-date or at all useful?

    Very up to date.

List a few things you think it's important new friends know about you right away:

I am mentally ill, depressive, anxious and a few other things. I am pansexual.

    You mostly write about:

Witchy things; religion, witchcraft, my practice, spellwork, holidays. As well as now, opening up to my fandom side on my DW. And worldbuilding for personal stories, projects, and D&D.

You never or very rarely write about:

    Politics

Is your journal mostly public, locked, or a mix of public and locked?

Fully locked. This is because i'm shy.

Do you use filters for certain types of posts (e.g. fandom-related posts, or posts about sex, or mental health issues, etc.)?

    Nope!

Your posting frequency (e.g. daily, every few days, weekly, etc.):

Almost daily, but that doesn't mean I won't disappear now and then.

Does your journal frequently include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc?

    Photos, of my art, typically.

What do you enjoy most about journaling?

Here on DW, people are actually friendly and comment on your things?? It's wild. Plus I can go back through tags and posts and remember things.

How often do you read your friends list (e.g. daily, every other day, once a week, etc.)?

    Probably every few days.

    You really enjoy reading about:

Fantasy stuff, Worldbuilding, Witchy/ Polytheism things, Fanfiction creation, Game Making, anything fun!

You have very little interest in reading about:

    Politics

Your thoughts on journals that regularly include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc?

They're fine!! I do it too! Doesn't gotta be a wall of text all the time.

When it comes to comments on your posts, what matters more -- quality or quantity?

Both?? I like having them, and I like actually being able to have a dialogue with folks!

Do you unfriend people who don't comment much, even if you know they are reading you regularly?

No, I think that's silly, what if they really like your content!!!

What is your approach when it comes to commenting on other journals?

I try to say something even if I don't have much to say, or am really shy! But if I don't say something then, I'll likely say something when I have something to say, if that makes sense?

When you friend someone, but things don't really click, do you unfriend them without warning, or do you send them a note first? How do you prefer to be unfriended in similar circumstances?

I do not tell people i'm unfriending them, I don't want to cause undue stress! And no, don't tell me!

    AND LASTLY

Friending memes often ask people to list their favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., but more often than not, those aren't things people actually write about in their journal. Do you have any favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., that you DO often write about -- not necessarily in a fandom sort of way, just in general?

I am only just now writing about my fandom interests, which will likely be Conan the Barbarian, Tolkien/LotR, and my own projects to be fair. I cycle through the others rapidly and only fixate for a bit. They'll likely only get spoken of whilst writing a fic, as I intend to do that more often.

Any final thoughts you'd like to share with potential new friends?

I know I write with lots of exclamation points!! But I am a shy person. I am open to dialogue, and messages if you feel like you wanna make friends! Any questions, ideas, thoughts, i'm there! Even if it's to get someone to read your new fic that you're very excited about! <3

Is there an interesting story behind your username?

I'm not sure if you'd call it interesting. I went by my real first name when I was part of fandom on e-groups, but by the time I joined Livejournal I had got a little wiser and realized the importance of a pseud. At that time I was writing Tolkien fanfic - which involved a basic grounding in Sindarin - and decided to call myself 'Galadhir', which either means 'man of light' or 'man of the trees' depending on how you aspirate the dh. Very much outs me as a Tolkien nerd.

I went through a stage where I changed my pseud to 'Potboy', and I am Potboy (Galadhir) on Ao3, but now I'm back to the classic.

    Location and language(s):

    UK, English (with UK spelling.)

    Age range (e.g 20s, 30s, etc.):

    58

Hot button/deal breaker issues that will likely lead to unfriending:

Trans rights, Queer rights (ie, I am vehemently for them and will unfriend anyone who isn't.) Likewise with other kinds of bigotry. Just think of an oversensitive leftist snowflake and that's me.

Do you have an "About Me" post new friends can read to get a sense of who you are, the people you talk about regularly, etc.?

    I don't think I do, actually. Maybe I should!

Is your profile up-to-date or at all useful?

Yes it is, and I try to have all my interests in there so you can find other people also interested in those things.

List a few things you think it's important new friends know about you right away:

Sci-fi and Fantasy geek. Non-binary, asexual parent of a trans child. I spent ten years as a writer of professional m/m romance novels and am now completely burned out on both romance and writing. Once a keen morris dancer, I can't do that any more due to dodgy knees and fibromyalgia, so I've just taken up bellydance instead.

    You mostly write about:

Fanfiction and podficcing. Sewing. What I did at the weekend. Media I just had to talk about. (Speaking of media, did you know there's going to be a Murderbot TV series!!! I have opinions about Murderbot.) My children's doings: Son has a narrowboat we repainted this summer. Daughter has two new cats and is planning to get married next year - so pictures of narrowboats and cats. Roses & Castles painting. Cycling, gardening, whatever craft project I'm working on atm. Dancing. A mix of fandoms and real life stuff.

You never or very rarely write about:

Politics. The depressing news of the day. Mainstream celebrities and/or culture. See above, sci-fi geek.

Is your journal mostly public, locked, or a mix of public and locked?

100% public. Anything that can't be said in public doesn't get said at all.

Do you use filters for certain types of posts (e.g. fandom-related posts, or posts about sex, or mental health issues, etc.)?

    Nope.

Your posting frequency (e.g. daily, every few days, weekly, etc.):

Every few days. I wash in and out like the tide depending on my energy levels.

Does your journal frequently include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc?

    Not frequently, but sometimes.

What do you enjoy most about journaling?

Meeting other people and having an actual online community like we used to have on LJ. Also looking back through my entries and remembering things.

How often do you read your friends list (e.g. daily, every other day, once a week, etc.)?

Also every few days depending on spoons.

    You really enjoy reading about:

Sci-fi and Fantasy media, fanfiction meta, world history, writing, cooking, idk, surprise me :)

You have very little interest in reading about:

Politics, the bad news of the day (I get that elsewhere)

Your thoughts on journals that regularly include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc?

    Wonderful! Love 'em.

When it comes to comments on your posts, what matters more -- quality or quantity?

...Both? I like to get some comments on a post - it's depressing to get none at all. But it would be nice if they were more than two words and a thumbs up. I will take two words rather than nothing, though.

Do you unfriend people who don't comment much, even if you know they are reading you regularly?

    No.

What is your approach when it comes to commenting on other journals?

I do it when I have the spoons and can think of something to say. When I have to choose whether to say anything at all or to say something interesting, I choose to say something even if it's not interesting, because it is depressing to get no comments at all.

When you friend someone, but things don't really click, do you unfriend them without warning, or do you send them a note first? How do you prefer to be unfriended in similar circumstances?

I don't tend to unfriend people, but if I did, I would do it without warning. I would also prefer to be unfriended without warning because then I might not even notice and it would spare me a potentially awkward interaction.

    AND LASTLY

Friending memes often ask people to list their favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., but more often than not, those aren't things people actually write about in their journal. Do you have any favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., that you DO often write about -- not necessarily in a fandom sort of way, just in general?

I do occasionally write about Murderbot, Tolkien, The Untamed, Stargate Universe, etc. I've been a SF/F geek since I was 11, so that's the kind of stuff I love and often think about. I'm also currently writing a fanfic for The Untamed and podficcing my own Ao3 works and any other fanfic I absolutely love and would like to listen to while I cycle. So you can expect notifications for fanfic and podfics. I probably don't do it often but I do do it.

Any final thoughts you'd like to share with potential new friends?

I'm really not as confident as I might come across in this intro. Still an introvert after all these years. I don't know how my writing style ever became this bombastic.

Is there an interesting story behind your username?
I don’t know how interesting it is, but when I was 8 years old, a friend and I had a long running game in which we were twin princesses. She was Sarita and I was Sabethea. I then reused the name in my teens when I realised I was a multiple, as one of my personalities. Then, when the internet started and I needed an alias, it seemed like an obvious one, and I’ve been using it online since the beginning of the internet, which is… quite scary, really.

    Location and language(s):
    UK, and English only, alas

    Age range (e.g 20s, 30s, etc.):
I’m in my 40s, but will friend anyone 18+

Hot button/deal breaker issues that will likely lead to unfriending:
If you are racist, homophobic, transphobic, very right-wing, a climate change denier, always absolutely certain you are right and the other person is wrong… all of these are going to make you dislike me greatly. And probably vice versa, to be honest.

Do you have an "About Me" post new friends can read to get a sense of who you are, the people you talk about regularly, etc.?
I do, but you can only read it after we’re friends, for security reasons… it’s linked on my profile.

Is your profile up-to-date or at all useful?
It’s up to date. I’m not sure how useful it is, though it does have the aforementioned link.

List a few things you think it's important new friends know about you right away:
I lack self-confidence, no matter how I may come across in writing, so please don’t virtually yell at me. (Disagree politely, yes, yell no.)
This doesn’t mean I don’t have strong views on things, however, you don’t have to agree with me on everything. I would rather you believed I mean well (because I do) though. See: disagree politely.
I am very very ill. This affects everything about my life.
I’m more cheerful than points 1-3 make me sound!

    You mostly write about:
Illness stuff (I am mostly bedbound and have ME, hEDS, and ulcerative colitis as my main current issues)
Family stuff (I have a teen son I think is brilliant, a currently slightly complicated relationship with some of my family, a lovely spouse)
Political stuff (UK politics, world affairs, trans issues, climate things)
Writing stuff (articles I write, fanfic stuff)

You never or very rarely write about:
    TV or computer games
    Going out and doing things
    Book reviews

Is your journal mostly public, locked, or a mix of public and locked?
    Mostly locked

Do you use filters for certain types of posts (e.g. fandom-related posts, or posts about sex, or mental health issues, etc.)?
I do use filters, though not very often.

Your posting frequency (e.g. daily, every few days, weekly, etc.):
Every few days on the whole.

Does your journal frequently include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc?
    No

What do you enjoy most about journaling?
Being able to get my thoughts and feelings out about things when I don’t want to burden my family with the, (so you get all my angst, lucky you!), meeting new people and learning about their lives (I’ve “met” some of my closest friends through DW and LJ, and actually later met many of them IRL as well)

How often do you read your friends list (e.g. daily, every other day, once a week, etc.)?
    Every few days

    You really enjoy reading about:
People’s lives, and also their thoughts and feelings about things.

You have very little interest in reading about:
Cars, computer games, technical details about something, television and film

Your thoughts on journals that regularly include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc?
I don’t mind, but I’d rather they weren’t the main bulk of everything

When it comes to comments on your posts, what matters more -- quality or quantity?
either, though I like to know people are there and they care and I’m not boring/annoying them.

Do you unfriend people who don't comment much, even if you know they are reading you regularly?
How do you know they’re reading you regularly if they don’t comment much? Do you, like, check up on their IP address? (I’ve never bothered finding out how to do that, though I’m sure I could.) If people comment occasionally, or I post something saying I’m thinking of doing a cut and people should comment if they want to stay, and they comment at that point, then I would keep them.

What is your approach when it comes to commenting on other journals?
I comment when I’ve got something to say, and I try and comment occasionally on most folk so that they know I’m there and I care, but I don’t comment all the time.

When you friend someone, but things don't really click, do you unfriend them without warning, or do you send them a note first? How do you prefer to be unfriended in similar circumstances?
Usually they unfriend me, tbh! But I’d usually just unfriend if it was very early on - like, if we’d friended each other and then realised we were *very* different and it was a disaster waiting to happen. I think I’d rather someone just quietly faded at the beginning. If it was someone I thought I was genuine friends with and we’d been commenting on each other’s journals regularly, I’d prefer they sent a note, but I have accepted it otherwise.

    AND LASTLY

Friending memes often ask people to list their favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., but more often than not, those aren't things people actually write about in their journal. Do you have any favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., that you DO often write about -- not necessarily in a fandom sort of way, just in general?
Um, I do occasionally write about Harry Potter, despite disliking the author. I may occasionally write about the Chalet School but less often.

Any final thoughts you'd like to share with potential new friends?
I have a terrible feeling this makes me sound like an awful person. I’ve kept lots of the friends I’ve made over the years journaling, so hopefully I can’t be that dreadful? 🧚🏻🩷
    Entry tags:

    Hi.

Is there an interesting story behind your username?

I'm head over heels for Paul Reubens. So naturally... I had to take his last name :) I used to be niko_altman, but just renamed my blog today.

    Location and language(s):

Boring ass Ohio, I speak English and some Russian.

    Age range (e.g 20s, 30s, etc.):

I myself am in my mid-30s. I seem a lot younger because of my personality and the fact I look young.

As for adding me, I'd prefer no one under 18! I'd prefer people 30+, but if you're 25+ that's okay.

Hot button/deal breaker issues that will likely lead to unfriending:

I do not want Trump supporters/MAGA people, bigots (especially transphobes), anti-Zionists, antisemites, or terrorist sympathizers friending me.

Do you have an "About Me" post new friends can read to get a sense of who you are, the people you talk about regularly, etc.?

Yes. I recommend reading my stickied about me post, and also reading my profile.

Is your profile up-to-date or at all useful?

Yes, I just recently revamped it, and it gives a better feel of who I am and what you'll see on my journal.

List a few things you think it's important new friends know about you right away:

    1. I'm Jewish.
    2. I'm trans.
    3. I'm autistic and post a lot of special interest things.

    You mostly write about:

My special interests, video games, repairing retro game systems, my fanfiction, my beloved Paul Reubens, and a lot of other stuff.

You never or very rarely write about:

    Hm... idk.

Is your journal mostly public, locked, or a mix of public and locked?

A mix. Other things are filtered to a small few on my list, as it's very personal in nature and these few understand me.

Do you use filters for certain types of posts (e.g. fandom-related posts, or posts about sex, or mental health issues, etc.)?

    Yes.

Your posting frequency (e.g. daily, every few days, weekly, etc.):

Whenever. Sometimes daily, sometimes multiple times a day, sometimes every few days... it depends.

Does your journal frequently include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc?

    Photos are frequent. Memes sometime.

What do you enjoy most about journaling?

Communicating with my friends here. Getting things out of my mush-brain.

How often do you read your friends list (e.g. daily, every other day, once a week, etc.)?

Daily. Don't always have the spoons to comment though.

    You really enjoy reading about:

    Everything, tbh,

You have very little interest in reading about:

IDK. I haven't figured it out yet. 🤣

Your thoughts on journals that regularly include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc?

    Fun!

When it comes to comments on your posts, what matters more -- quality or quantity?

    Quality.

Do you unfriend people who don't comment much, even if you know they are reading you regularly?

No, because I understand they may not have the spoons to comment, just like me.

What is your approach when it comes to commenting on other journals?

? I comment when I have the spoons, or if something is interesting, or if I just feel like it.

When you friend someone, but things don't really click, do you unfriend them without warning, or do you send them a note first? How do you prefer to be unfriended in similar circumstances?

Without warning, unless we've been friends a while, then I'll send a message. I don't like to be cut from people's friends out of the blue, so I try to treat others how I'd want to be treated.

    AND LASTLY

Friending memes often ask people to list their favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., but more often than not, those aren't things people actually write about in their journal. Do you have any favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., that you DO often write about -- not necessarily in a fandom sort of way, just in general?

I regularly post about Pee-wee's Playhouse, and have been doing a watch along/review posting with the episodes. So there's that. I don't think that there's anything that I don't journal about in a way that isn't "fandom sort of way".

Any final thoughts you'd like to share with potential new friends?

Just to reiterate, it's highly important to read my profile and my sticky about post before friending me. Both of those things are full of information that will help you decide whether or not you want to follow and friend me.

I was 10 or 11, I was coming up with Sailor Moon OCs, I flipped to the “list of mythology topics” page in what must’ve been the family World Book Encyclopedia, and picked half a dozen names basically at random. One of them ended up being Sailor Ptah.

…you want to see some art, right? Of course you do.

( Art + the rest of the questions behind the fake cut )

    (no subject)

Is there an interesting story behind your username?
Not really haha. I like to make crafty things, but I like to make them with care for detail, so that anyone I may give it to doesn't get a crappy craft, hence the name.

    Location and language(s)
US. I only know english *sads* Outside of quality time with my love, crafting, work, video games and ebay stuff, I just don't have the brain capacity to memorize another language.

    Age range (e.g 20s, 30s, etc.)
Old enough to wonder how a klutzy person like myself has never broken a bone. I'm well over 25 though.

Hot button/deal breaker issues that will likely lead to unfriending
2020 was a dumpster fire of a year for me. I grew very pro-vaccine/masking from it. Also those who, in privacy, like to gossip about or bully others, will get an instant defriend. I will not deal with that one what-so-ever. While I haven't seen any issue with it otherwise, other deal breakers include intolerance, bigotry, sexism, racism etc. And last but not least, I don't like politics. I understand and won't defriend you if there's mentions of politics here and there, please understand, but if it's all you post about, I may lost interest.

Do you have an "About Me" post new friends can read to get a sense of who you are, the people you talk about regularly, etc.?
Yes, I do. It's little and bare bones right now, but I will be adding to it.

Is your profile up-to-date or at all useful?
Like my About Me post, it's very bare bones right now, but it'll eventually get more populated.

List a few things you think it's important new friends know about you right away..
Nothing I haven't already covered in the deal-breakers category. Though, to be fair, I should mention that I deal with adhd, depression, anxiety, and paranoia. It may come up a bit, it may not. My life isn't always rainbows and sunshine, and I sympathize and understand if yours isn't either, that's totally fine.

    You mostly write about..
Life endeavors, creative endeavors, silliness from time to time, and some mentions of video games too.

You never or very rarely write about..
It's a hard one for me to answer because some of the things I like to write about are daily thoughts. My head is always going 90 miles an hour, sometimes about the most random things so I can't say I won't write about *insert topic here*, BUT, I tend to stay away from politics, as thinking about politics only makes my blood boil.

Is your journal mostly public, locked, or a mix of public and locked?
It will be mixed, but a big portion of my posts will be friend-locked.

Do you use filters for certain types of posts (e.g. fandom-related posts, or posts about sex, or mental health issues, etc.)?
Yes and no, while this is a new (kinda) journal of mine, I was on LJ for years and I used cuts for many things, including long posts, or posts with pictures or video. I don't plan to write about anything triggering, per say, but if I feel it may be triggering, I'll put it in a cut.

Your posting frequency (e.g. daily, every few days, weekly, etc.)
I don't currently have a set frequency because my jobs have been hectic, but things are calming down, so every other day - every 3rd day?

Does your journal frequently include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc?
Photos, gifs and videos, probably but if it's more than one, I'll use a cut.

What do you enjoy most about journaling?
Talking about things, whether it be talking to friends or talking about things in posts. I like it all, really.

How often do you read your friends list (e.g. daily, every other day, once a week, etc.)?
    Same as posting frequency!

    You really enjoy reading about..
Whatever, really. I'm not picky. I mean, there are things I won't relate as much to, such as posts about being a father/mother, but I not at all against reading about it. I most like reading about others thoughts, creativity and video games.

You have very little interest in reading about...
Deeply political posts are really the only thing I'm currently thinking of.

Your thoughts on journals that regularly include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc?
So long as it's under cut, if it's a lot, I don't mind any of it.

When it comes to comments on your posts, what matters more -- quality or quantity?
I'm gonna say quality. But that said, even if it's a short comment, knowing someone cares to take the time to say something here and there is a thing for me too.

Do you unfriend people who don't comment much, even if you know they are reading you regularly?
Not really. I value trying at a real friendship, in which I place value on interaction to some degree, but if I know you're going through a funk, if you're dealing with some heavy stuff, or if you're on hiatus, I will understand and I won't defriend. However, if one were to say absolutely nothing at all, and over a long period of time, I'd be more on the side of unfriending.

What is your approach when it comes to commenting on other journals?
I like to talk so I will often say something on other's posts, if I have something to say or can relate to it.

When you friend someone, but things don't really click, do you unfriend them without warning, or do you send them a note first? How do you prefer to be unfriended in similar circumstances?
Silently, but again, someone would have to absolutely say nothing at all over a long period of time to be unfriended.

    AND LASTLY

Friending memes often ask people to list their favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., but more often than not, those aren't things people actually write about in their journal. Do you have any favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., that you DO often write about -- not necessarily in a fandom sort of way, just in general?
Video games! A lot of Switch games, and some games on the phone. Podcasts are another one, though I'm still new to that world, though. I love mystery, paranormal and comedic podcasts.

Any final thoughts you'd like to share with potential new friends?
    I can't think of anything.
    Hm...
I guess something that wasn't covered above would be hobbies. I like to create! Cook, sew, write, organize, clean, do patchwork, and fix broken things. I can finger knit, I need more practice though.
