Is there an interesting story behind your username?
I was pretty crazy about Supernatural when I started my blog on LJ and I decided to keep the name here so it is easy for friends to recognize. Not that I don't still love the show but other things are taking up more time and the fire has died down to a nice glower - the kind you might roast marshmallows over.
Location and language(s):
Japan - I am a Canadian citizen that has lived in Japan almost all of my life - all except four years of uni. I can read/write posts in both languages but am much more at home with English.
Age range (e.g 20s, 30s, etc.):
50s. Just turned 50 last year.
Hot button/deal breaker issues that will likely lead to unfriending:
Rudeness toward anyone here or any of my friends (circle).
Do you have an "About Me" post new friends can read to get a sense of who you are, the people you talk about regularly, etc.?
I do answer questions to a meme every week and you can get a sense of me just from reading one of the entries. There is a more detailed intro for friends only.
Is your profile up-to-date or at all useful?
The profile is what I moved over from LJ. I've tried to update it a bit.
List a few things you think it's important new friends know about you right away:
I am a mother of 3 humans (now 21, 20, 14) and a shiba inu (5). I live in Japan with my family and have my own English language school, where I mostly teach children from 1 yr old and over. I recently lost 37 pounds and my new passion is getting fit and sculpting my body with as little effort as possible :) Oh, I also belong to a small choir group of moms so I post about that too.
You mostly write about:
Myself and my everyday life. LOL. I will have an entry devoted to Supernatural once in a while, but now that it is on the back burner, I talk more about books, other TV shows and movies that I am watching as well stuff that happened during the week - in my family, for my work etc.
You never or very rarely write about:
politics and sports. I am really not interested in them at all.
Is your journal mostly public, locked, or a mix of public and locked?
A mix. I will lock entries that have especially personal photos or content.
Do you use filters for certain types of posts (e.g. fandom-related posts, or posts about sex, or mental health issues, etc.)?
Fandom posts will be public - you can skip by it if you are not interested. The rest of the above examples will most likely be locked.
Your posting frequency (e.g. daily, every few days, weekly, etc.):
Every week or two weeks at least. Sometimes several times in a day.
Does your journal frequently include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc?
Memes (as in questions), picspams sometimes when I am feeling low and need a pick-me-up, I love making gifs so gifs, photos and sometimes videos, yes.
What do you enjoy most about journaling?
I especially enjoy looking back on my posts and remembering what I went through. It is nice to have conversations with others too on various topics of interest.
How often do you read your friends list (e.g. daily, every other day, once a week, etc.)?
Whenever I come in to write, I usually check my "reading page" as well.
You really enjoy reading about:
I enjoy reading about the same sort of thing I write about.
You have very little interest in reading about:
Sports teams/fantalk or politics. I don't mind reading about personal challenges of an athlete or as a part of a person's day but I cannot contribute much to a discussion on a team, league or sports event.
Your thoughts on journals that regularly include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc?
"Linkspams" I may not be too excited about. But everything else sounds great.
When it comes to comments on your posts, what matters more -- quality or quantity?
I think the quality of a comment often depends on the content of the entry... sometimes there is reallly nothing substantial you can say. But it is nice to see someone just pop in even for a brief comment.
Do you unfriend people who don't comment much, even if you know they are reading you regularly?
No, as long as it is clear they are reading. I really have a hard time with unfriending people. I can't. But I don't think very well of them either.
What is your approach when it comes to commenting on other journals?
I really wish this site had a heart function because sometimes, I just can't think of anything to say even after reading the post. I try to pop in and at least show that I am reading though.
When you friend someone, but things don't really click, do you unfriend them without warning, or do you send them a note first? How do you prefer to be unfriended in similar circumstances?
I really can't unfriend... I think it's only happened once. I will probably send a note. I think I would really appreciate a note.
AND LASTLY
Friending memes often ask people to list their favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., but more often than not, those aren't things people actually write about in their journal. Do you have any favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., that you DO often write about -- not necessarily in a fandom sort of way, just in general?
I watch a lot of shows and have a lot of favorites. Other than Supernatural, some that I have watched/read more than once are the Outlander series, Riverdale, the Magicians, Vikings, SHIELD, Titans, The Witcher, Sherlock, The Shooter, Sense 8, the Wheel of Time, Game of Thrones...
Any final thoughts you'd like to share with potential new friends?
