Is there an interesting story behind your username?
I'm not sure if you'd call it interesting. I went by my real first name when I was part of fandom on e-groups, but by the time I joined Livejournal I had got a little wiser and realized the importance of a pseud. At that time I was writing Tolkien fanfic - which involved a basic grounding in Sindarin - and decided to call myself 'Galadhir', which either means 'man of light' or 'man of the trees' depending on how you aspirate the dh. Very much outs me as a Tolkien nerd.
I went through a stage where I changed my pseud to 'Potboy', and I am Potboy (Galadhir) on Ao3, but now I'm back to the classic.
Location and language(s):
UK, English (with UK spelling.)
Age range (e.g 20s, 30s, etc.):
58
Hot button/deal breaker issues that will likely lead to unfriending:
Trans rights, Queer rights (ie, I am vehemently for them and will unfriend anyone who isn't.) Likewise with other kinds of bigotry. Just think of an oversensitive leftist snowflake and that's me.
Do you have an "About Me" post new friends can read to get a sense of who you are, the people you talk about regularly, etc.?
I don't think I do, actually. Maybe I should!
Is your profile up-to-date or at all useful?
Yes it is, and I try to have all my interests in there so you can find other people also interested in those things.
List a few things you think it's important new friends know about you right away:
Sci-fi and Fantasy geek. Non-binary, asexual parent of a trans child. I spent ten years as a writer of professional m/m romance novels and am now completely burned out on both romance and writing. Once a keen morris dancer, I can't do that any more due to dodgy knees and fibromyalgia, so I've just taken up bellydance instead.
You mostly write about:
Fanfiction and podficcing. Sewing. What I did at the weekend. Media I just had to talk about. (Speaking of media, did you know there's going to be a Murderbot TV series!!! I have opinions about Murderbot.) My children's doings: Son has a narrowboat we repainted this summer. Daughter has two new cats and is planning to get married next year - so pictures of narrowboats and cats. Roses & Castles painting. Cycling, gardening, whatever craft project I'm working on atm. Dancing. A mix of fandoms and real life stuff.
You never or very rarely write about:
Politics. The depressing news of the day. Mainstream celebrities and/or culture. See above, sci-fi geek.
Is your journal mostly public, locked, or a mix of public and locked?
100% public. Anything that can't be said in public doesn't get said at all.
Do you use filters for certain types of posts (e.g. fandom-related posts, or posts about sex, or mental health issues, etc.)?
Nope.
Your posting frequency (e.g. daily, every few days, weekly, etc.):
Every few days. I wash in and out like the tide depending on my energy levels.
Does your journal frequently include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc?
Not frequently, but sometimes.
What do you enjoy most about journaling?
Meeting other people and having an actual online community like we used to have on LJ. Also looking back through my entries and remembering things.
How often do you read your friends list (e.g. daily, every other day, once a week, etc.)?
Also every few days depending on spoons.
You really enjoy reading about:
Sci-fi and Fantasy media, fanfiction meta, world history, writing, cooking, idk, surprise me :)
You have very little interest in reading about:
Politics, the bad news of the day (I get that elsewhere)
Your thoughts on journals that regularly include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc?
Wonderful! Love 'em.
When it comes to comments on your posts, what matters more -- quality or quantity?
...Both? I like to get some comments on a post - it's depressing to get none at all. But it would be nice if they were more than two words and a thumbs up. I will take two words rather than nothing, though.
Do you unfriend people who don't comment much, even if you know they are reading you regularly?
No.
What is your approach when it comes to commenting on other journals?
I do it when I have the spoons and can think of something to say. When I have to choose whether to say anything at all or to say something interesting, I choose to say something even if it's not interesting, because it is depressing to get no comments at all.
When you friend someone, but things don't really click, do you unfriend them without warning, or do you send them a note first? How do you prefer to be unfriended in similar circumstances?
I don't tend to unfriend people, but if I did, I would do it without warning. I would also prefer to be unfriended without warning because then I might not even notice and it would spare me a potentially awkward interaction.
AND LASTLY
Friending memes often ask people to list their favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., but more often than not, those aren't things people actually write about in their journal. Do you have any favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., that you DO often write about -- not necessarily in a fandom sort of way, just in general?
I do occasionally write about Murderbot, Tolkien, The Untamed, Stargate Universe, etc. I've been a SF/F geek since I was 11, so that's the kind of stuff I love and often think about. I'm also currently writing a fanfic for The Untamed and podficcing my own Ao3 works and any other fanfic I absolutely love and would like to listen to while I cycle. So you can expect notifications for fanfic and podfics. I probably don't do it often but I do do it.
Any final thoughts you'd like to share with potential new friends?
I'm really not as confident as I might come across in this intro. Still an introvert after all these years. I don't know how my writing style ever became this bombastic.
