Is there an interesting story behind your username?
My nickname has been Captain since I was in elementary school! “Cassidy” is half of my name, but not the name I use in my day-to-day since I came out as trans. :)
Location and language(s): USA, ENG
Age range (e.g 20s, 30s, etc.): Late 20s
Hot button/deal breaker issues that will likely lead to unfriending: Pro-censorship or “you can’t do xyz in fiction” people, often referred to as “antis” or “puritans.” I’m also a psyche student, so any anti-psychology, anti-science, anti-vaxx, etc. etc. is a major NO. Obviously no TERFs, Trumpers, right wing, fascists, yadda yadda. I’m queer, left-leaning, and sick of people making stupid claims about [insert hot button issue here]. If you’ve ever referred to an animanga as “p*do bait” or implied people who like certain animanga or kinks are predators, you won’t be welcome on my journal. (No issue if you personally dislike stuff, tho—I hate plenty of “problematic” kinks/story beats XD) Also, I’m not interested in interacting with people who make a disordered paraphilia their primary feature, or participate in communities geared towards it.
Do you have an "About Me" post new friends can read to get a sense of who you are, the people you talk about regularly, etc.?
Yup! So long as the link works — it’s right here!
Is your profile up-to-date or at all useful?
Should be!
List a few things you think it's important new friends know about you right away: Currently going through a rough time. I try to be positive but will occasionally vent or rant about my IRL issues. Some of that is locked to access-only, some is not—it just depends. I’m really looking for people to chat with semi-consistently, too, though it’s not an obligation. Just an “if we click” kinda thing. I’m still reeling from the world’s (and fandom’s) recent events, exoduses, and horrors.
You mostly write about: A mix of stuff! Games, movies, documentaries, and manga are all things I’ve recently posted about. I occasionally talk about personal stuff, too. I occasionally talk about RP despite not being able to consistently engage with it. Every great while I’ll post a quote from something I’m reading or watching, too.
You never or very rarely write about: I try to avoid getting really into politics or hot button issues, except for the occasional rant in access-only. Anything super NSFW is reserved for my AD account, too. I also don’t write stupid shit like callouts or “fake claiming” or gross, bullying stuff like that. :P
Is your journal mostly public, locked, or a mix of public and locked?
Mixed! Access is by request, if you pass the vibe check. XD My AD account is fully locked, but if you have access to my main you’re free to request access to that too. Enough of my stuff is public that you wouldn’t be missing much on my main.
Do you use filters for certain types of posts (e.g. fandom-related posts, or posts about sex, or mental health issues, etc.)?
Sometimes mental health, a lot more recently since I’ve been in a bad way, but I try to keep things related to what I’m doing/watching/reading. I don’t know what the current ratio is, but let’s say 70% fandom, 30% other stuff, ideally.
Your posting frequency (e.g. daily, every few days, weekly, etc.): Depends! I sometimes post a couple times a day, sometimes only once in two weeks. It just depends on how much energy I have.
Does your journal frequently include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc?
Sometimes! If I talk about a movie or manga I might post the cover art, or if I make something (like icons I made recently) then those will be visible. Photos maybe once in a while, if I do something IRL I kinda like (such as my old first attempts at clay sculpting).
What do you enjoy most about journaling?
Being personable without necessarily needing to be physically there. Community was always extremely important to me, and blogging/journaling makes me feel like I have some of it after so many years of communities getting ravaged by the last ten year’s worth of… whatever has been happening.
How often do you read your friends list (e.g. daily, every other day, once a week, etc.)?
Every time I remember the “read” page. Which is usually once or twice a week!
You really enjoy reading about: Fandom stuff, life stuff, community stuff… anything I feel I can relate to. Which, incidentally, is a lot.
You have very little interest in reading about: F/F or femslash—No shade, it’s just not my thing, so I’ll likely skip over journals that post lots of it! I’m also not super interested in reading about politics atm, with the exception of the occasional anti-censorship/pro-queer and kink stuff.
Your thoughts on journals that regularly include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc?
Link spam sounds like it would be annoying, but if it makes sense for the journal, I wouldn’t care. I’m fine with journals that include photos, memes, gifs, and videos! Gives me something to do in some cases. :>
When it comes to comments on your posts, what matters more -- quality or quantity?
Both, sort of? Due to where I am in life rn, it’s important to me that I feel like someone has read something I’ve said. So high-effort comments are awesome and beloved, but if you just send an emoji or a “same” or something silly once in a while, I appreciate that a lot, too. :)
Do you unfriend people who don't comment much, even if you know they are reading you regularly?
Nope! I don’t really care, as long as I like reading what they write/post. I might if I comment and routinely get ignored, though, as I would feel unwanted.
What is your approach when it comes to commenting on other journals?
I try to comment on a journal every time I pop in to write my own. I’ll tend to express agreement or ask questions, but I avoid coming in swinging if someone posts something I don’t “get” or disagree with. I’m generally really friendly and encouraging, because I want to see more of that in the world. :)
When you friend someone, but things don't really click, do you unfriend them without warning, or do you send them a note first? How do you prefer to be unfriended in similar circumstances?
I don’t really see the subscribing/unsubscribing quite the same as “friending,” or with high expectations. You’re free to unsub or sub freely, but if you do want to unsub and you have previously had access, please let me know! I will remove access, for my personal comfort. I guess I’m “FUB free,” if that’s the right term?
AND LASTLY
Friending memes often ask people to list their favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., but more often than not, those aren't things people actually write about in their journal. Do you have any favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., that you DO often write about -- not necessarily in a fandom sort of way, just in general?
I write about really obscure games/shows/books/etc. all the time! 90% of my fandoms/the stuff I write about are long-dead or ended series or extremely niche. My favorite anime of all time is Ginga Nagareboshi Gin (Silverfang Legend: Gin), I’m really into Resident Evil (mostly for Wesker, lmao), the Alien prequels, and a ton of random animanga/manhua/manwha! I’ll also occasionally wax poetic about MLP:FiM and (old) brony culture, as well as (old) furry culture.
Any final thoughts you'd like to share with potential new friends?
I think I come off as pretty intense. I’m also very… wordy. I’m very much an individual with opinions, nearly unrestrained curiosity, and a strong sense of my own morals. That’s too much for people sometimes. But I hope to connect with people despite (or because of!) those things, and maybe regain a bit of that sense of community I lost after the tumblr exodus and it’s… ensuing effects on fandom/subcultures.
