OwO What's this?
Jun. 10th, 2019 10:49 pmIs there an interesting story behind your username?
A bit! "Binary Sunset" is the title of Luke's theme from the Star Wars soundtrack. I had to change my tumblr URL on a dime after some Crazy Shit happened, and I've always loved both the song and it's title, so "Binary Sunset" stuck.
Location and language(s):
Northeastern United States. My native language is English, but my Spanish is not terrible (however, my German is).
Age range (e.g 20s, 30s, etc.):
I'm 20!
Hot button/deal breaker issues that will likely lead to unfriending:
If you try to police how other people express themselves and identify, I will vore you. As long as they aren't actively harming someone else, how is it any of your business?
Do you have an "About Me" post new friends can read to get a sense of who you are, the people you talk about regularly, etc.?
A bit! I have a quick self-summary on my profile as well as some more utilitarian stuff on my sticky post.
Is your profile up-to-date or at all useful?
Yup! I try to keep it as up-to-date as I can.
List a few things you think it's important new friends know about you right away:
1. I am nonbinary and use she/her and he/him pronouns.
2. The fandoms I'm in are mostly past their prime.
3. I love engagement with my posts, especially discussing different ideas.
You mostly write about:
Most of what lives on my blog is fandom-related. I do a list of fic recs every Friday (usually... skipped this week because I didn't read anything), as well as advertise my own fics. Most of my personal posts are locked to people I've interacted with in the past and usually involve me rambling about something going on in The Real World. You're really not missing much, I mostly write those to vent when my brain is cluttered.
You never or very rarely write about:
In terms of fandom content, I don't write a whole lot of meta. I love reading other people's ideas, it's just not what I focus on. My approach to fandom is "canon is a slowly rotting corpse and I have come to pick out the best parts and leave the rest." So yeah, don't expect a whole lot of deep thinkpieces about character motivations or symbolism. I tend to channel things that give me The Most Feelings into my fics.
Not that I hate meta as a concept or anything, I just do a lot of literary analysis for my degree, so I'd prefer to write something else in my free time.
Is your journal mostly public, locked, or a mix of public and locked?
Mostly public. As mentioned above, I sometimes lock posts about my personal life, but unless you're super invested in me as a person, I doubt you'd be missing much.
Do you use filters for certain types of posts (e.g. fandom-related posts, or posts about sex, or mental health issues, etc.)?
I didn't even know filters were a thing you could do on this website. But no, if there's something I'm not interested in, I usually scroll past it.
Your posting frequency (e.g. daily, every few days, weekly, etc.):
I post at least once a week. Fic Recs happen (almost) every Friday, and I usually find something to post in between them. Most of the time, it's a fic I've uploaded or a letter for an exchange I've entered, but sometimes it's something else entirely.
Does your journal frequently include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc?
Not frequently. My content is pretty text-based, but I love making graphics and icons when I have the time. I find memes to be pretty fun, but I don't stumble across them particularly often.
What do you enjoy most about journaling?
I mostly like capturing who I am and what I'm thinking at a specific point in time. It's like a little snapshot of what's on your mind at a specific time of a specific day. Pretty fun!
How often do you read your friends list (e.g. daily, every other day, once a week, etc.)?
Basically never. If you friend me, I get the notification and usually friend back, but that's just about it.
I usually scroll through my reading page at least once a day.
You really enjoy reading about:
Other people's writing experiences, experiences in fandom, and their thoughts and feelings about whatever canon it is that they're following.
You have very little interest in reading about:
I hate to be That Bitch, but I usually don't read a whole lot of political posts on here. I understand that the real world is important, and I care a great deal about the state of world affairs and understand that other people do as well, it's just not really what I personally come to Dreamwidth for. I feel like the internet is so saturated with current events that it's kind of nice to have a place to go and just be absorbed into fandom space for a while.
Your thoughts on journals that regularly include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc?
Sounds like fun! I don't follow a lot of y'all, so I think it'd be nice to diversify my reading page a bit.
When it comes to comments on your posts, what matters more -- quality or quantity?
All comments are good comments. I mean, beautifully-written and insightful comments are absolutely wonderful, but not everyone can churn those out every day. I appreciate any and all engagement I receive because, to quote John Mulaney

Do you unfriend people who don't comment much, even if you know they are reading you regularly?
No. I only really unfriend/unsubscribe if I don't enjoy your content.
What is your approach when it comes to commenting on other journals?
If I feel like I have something productive or relevant to say, I generally say it. I'm very loud, and the dopamine rush from seeing notifications in my inbox is a powerful motivator. I joined DW after escaping from tumblr because of its focus on community rather than just screaming into a void and hoping someone reblogs. You can have actual conversations with people on here and it's awesome!
When you friend someone, but things don't really click, do you unfriend them without warning, or do you send them a note first? How do you prefer to be unfriended in similar circumstances?
I don't really unfriend people particularly often.
That being said, if someone is causing trouble or is a toxic presence in my journal, I'll probably have a private word with them and if the behaviour doesn't improve, I'll unfriend. But hopefully it won't have to come to that.
AND LASTLY
Friending memes often ask people to list their favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., but more often than not, those aren't things people actually write about in their journal. Do you have any favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., that you DO often write about -- not necessarily in a fandom sort of way, just in general?
Dreamwidth is kind of my designated fandom space, so everything I write about is in one fannish capacity or another.
In general, the fandoms I write for most often are Fantastic Beasts and Call Me By Your Name (problematic fav, I know), but I've been on a Kingsman kick lately and the release of the Good Omens TV show is giving me a mighty need to revisit my favourite ineffable husbands as well. I also love Oscar Wilde.
I've seen a lot of the Marvel movies, but I've never really written for any of them. My favourites are Thor: Ragnarok and Captain Marvel, and I'm more than happy to talk Marvel, both in private and in the comments on others' posts. My favourite OG Avenger is Steve, for the record.
Any final thoughts you'd like to share with potential new friends?
I wrote this while VERY tired, so please excuse how dumb I may sound.
But if I seem like a good fit for your Dreamwidth experience, consider giving me a sub?
