hello from xnera!
Jun. 11th, 2019 12:09 pmIs there an interesting story behind your username?
I used to joke that I would marry the person who recognized the significance of my username without having to be told it, LOL. It's not that interesting of a story, though -- it's just my first name in rot13 code. Oh -- and I prefer it written in all lowercase. For some reason I don't like how it looks with a capital X.
Location and language(s): United States. I speak English. I hope to learn Japanese some day!
Age range (e.g 20s, 30s, etc.): 40s
Hot button/deal breaker issues that will likely lead to unfriending:
Hmm, this is a tough one! I'm liberal, so I don't have much patience for conservative viewpoints, but I don't know if that would lead to unfriending.
Do you have an "About Me" post new friends can read to get a sense of who you are, the people you talk about regularly, etc.?
I don't, but my profile links to Shakesville's post about expecting more and I think that post gives a good idea of my ideals.
Is your profile up-to-date or at all useful?
My profile is pretty bare, so I wouldn't call it useful. I should probably change that. I definitely need to weed my interests -- they're out of date.
List a few things you think it's important new friends know about you right away:
I have bipolar type II and general anxiety disorder, and a lot of my journal is writing about my struggles with this.
You mostly write about:
1. Video games, especially Final Fantasy Brave Exvius. I like to write posts about my adventures in FFBE when I beat tough bosses, etc.
2. Crafting, specifically knitting and crochet. I write a monthly post updating folks about my crafting adventures.
3. My therapy sessions with my counselor. I write reflection posts after my meetings with her, every two weeks.
4. Other brain weasel-y posts that I need to write about at any given time.
You never or very rarely write about:
Politics. I may be liberal but I don't write about politics in my journal, nor do I really care to read about politics from others.
Is your journal mostly public, locked, or a mix of public and locked?
A mix of public and locked. My video game/crafting posts are public. Everything else is access locked.
It ebbs and flows, though lately I post a few times a week. I have in the past gone months without posting, but I don't see that happening right now.
Does your journal frequently include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc?
I do memes occasionally - going to be starting one today, about Final Fantasy. I don't do linkspams or gifs. If I post photos or videos I try to remember to post them behind a cut.
What do you enjoy most about journaling?
It's a way for me to grow. I've been journaling for a long time, and I love looking back at old entries and seeing just how far I've come. It helps me know myself better, and is also one of the few ways I get interaction with others these days. I'm a raging introvert so I don't have many friends, but through my journal I'm able to get the interaction that even an introvert needs at times.
How often do you read your friends list (e.g. daily, every other day, once a week, etc.)?
Several times a day!
You really enjoy reading about:
People's lives in general. Video games. Crafts. But mostly general life stuff.
You have very little interest in reading about:
Politics.
Your thoughts on journals that regularly include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc?
NO GIFS. I do not like gifs. The others I don't mind. I sometimes can get annoyed if a post has a lot of photos, but that's why I have image placeholders turned on, so my reading page doesn't explode from oversized photos.
When it comes to comments on your posts, what matters more -- quality or quantity?
Quality. I mostly journal for me. While I'm always appreciative to get comments, I don't care if I don't get a lot.
Do you unfriend people who don't comment much, even if you know they are reading you regularly?
That would be hypocritical of me, as I'm not the best at commenting myself... so, no.
What is your approach when it comes to commenting on other journals?
Being that I'm an introvert, I usually only comment when I have something that I really want to say.
When you friend someone, but things don't really click, do you unfriend them without warning, or do you send them a note first? How do you prefer to be unfriended in similar circumstances?
That's a good question! Honestly, I'm more likely to just move the person off my default reading list, so they still remain in my circle but I don't read them. If we REALLY don't click, though... I guess I would just remove them from my circle without warning. As for how I would prefer this to be handled myself: I say in my profile that anyone can remove me whenever they want. I'm not someone to make drama. I might get confused and wonder what happened, but I would probably just let it go.
AND LASTLY
Friending memes often ask people to list their favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., but more often than not, those aren't things people actually write about in their journal. Do you have any favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., that you DO often write about -- not necessarily in a fandom sort of way, just in general?
Final Fantasy! I write about the franchise as a whole, but especially Brave Exvius. Otherwise, no. I don't watch TV or go to the movies, and for several years I barely read novels. I'm slowly getting back into reading again and might post about those books in my journal.
Any final thoughts you'd like to share with potential new friends?
Hmm. In the past, I've had comments from people in my circle saying that they found reading my journal to be beneficial, perhaps because I work through my neuroses in my entries. I've always been gobsmacked and humbled when someone says something like that. While I mostly write for myself, it's heartening to know that I'm helping others too, since that is something that really resonates with me. I hope my journal can continue to be a source of help for others.

A mix of public and locked. My video game/crafting posts are public. Everything else is access locked.
Do you use filters for certain types of posts (e.g. fandom-related posts, or posts about sex, or mental health issues, etc.)?
Yes, I have one filter that I use when I'm feeling particularly vulnerable, and only post to my most trusted circle members.
It ebbs and flows, though lately I post a few times a week. I have in the past gone months without posting, but I don't see that happening right now.
