Weirdo seeking same. :3
Is there an interesting story behind your username?
It's the name of an Elfquest character I made for myself somewhere around 1994. It's also almost never taken on websites, so I use it to sign up for a lot of things, though there is at least one other bladespark out there. (There are lots of SParks since most things aren't case sensitive and oodles of Aidans.)
Location and language(s):
Oregon, and English only.
Age range (e.g 20s, 30s, etc.):
Early 40s. Geez that feels weird to say still.
Hot button/deal breaker issues that will likely lead to unfriending:
If you are phobic about gay people, trans people, kinky people, etc. If you're prudish about sex. (Although I can't imagine anybody who's like that adding me, because I am SO out about being a queer trans kinky smut writer, so...) Also if you judge people for what fandoms they're in, what media they consume, etc. I mean really? REALLY? I am furry and I dance along to Mmm-Bop which is on my playlist, and why in the world does anybody care?
Do you have an "About Me" post new friends can read to get a sense of who you are, the people you talk about regularly, etc.?
Yep! Behold! https://bladespark.dreamwidth.org/1498417.html
Is your profile up-to-date or at all useful?
Fairly, yes. It's nowhere near comprehensive or anything.
List a few things you think it's important new friends know about you right away:
Well, see above about being trans, queer, and kinky. I'm probably a bit of an over-sharer too, especially here on DW, so expect to hear stuff about my sex life and depression and having a Master and the porn I'm writing and... Yeah. :3 Also I ramble. A lot.
You mostly write about:
Whatever floats through my mind. Essays on kink or writing or fandom. Random shit I ate today. Whatever I'm obsessed with in the moment. (I go through phases. Currently, coffee! I used to hate it, now I make it with a hipster aeropress. It's great!) Depression and personal life issues. Spirituality. Fandoms I'm into. Stories I'm working on. Stories I've published. (Gotta plug 'em, right?) It's pretty random, to be honest.
You never or very rarely write about:
Big world issues. Other people have that covered. I won't say I never write about "politics" because to some people "politics" includes LGBT issues, and since that's who I am I'm going to write about it, but I generally leave whatever the Alabama Legislature is up to today to the actual news outlets and the friends with political enthusiasm, and write about those topics in a more personal and day-to-day way.
Is your journal mostly public, locked, or a mix of public and locked?
Right now it's all public. I haven't had anybody being an idiot on my posts lately, or saying anything judgey or cruel, so I'm feeling relatively safe here for the time being. That's always subject to change in the future. I do try to remember to tag outright 18+ stuff, though I don't consider saying the word "sex" to be 18+, only like...actual explicit content. :3
Do you use filters for certain types of posts (e.g. fandom-related posts, or posts about sex, or mental health issues, etc.)?
Not at the moment. I probably should tag and filter things better, but I'm a disorganized mess, and trying to remember what words I used previously and be organized like that takes spoons I don't currently have so...meh.
Your posting frequency (e.g. daily, every few days, weekly, etc.):
Daily-ish. I skip days, I post twice in a day. I'm not super consistent.
Does your journal frequently include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc?
Pretty much never, other than sometimes pics of plush projects, book covers, or other things relevant to my own creative works.
What do you enjoy most about journaling?
Shit bounces around in my head a lot, it helps keep the breanweasels quiet to get it out somrtimes. And it's nice when other people care.
How often do you read your friends list (e.g. daily, every other day, once a week, etc.)?
I check in daily. Hell, sometimes several times a day. Though of course that's always prone to internet outages, my toddler eating my life, and vacations and such.
You really enjoy reading about:
Whatever people are passionate about, really. I mean, I've been super enjoying a series about watching and appreciating this fashion competition show, and I kinda hate fashion? But it's been fun to follow. So it's more about connecting with people than any specific topic.
You have very little interest in reading about:
Something I could read about in a newspaper. If I wanted mainstream reporting, I'd follow mainstream reporters. I'm on DW to connect with real people. If you're super passionate about newsblogging, it's possible I might still find it interesting, especially if you're covering more niche subjects or putting on some personal spin, but seriously, I get the antics of Trump all up in my face enough as it is, here is not where I come for that sort of thing.
Your thoughts on journals that regularly include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc?
Eh. If there's lots and lots of gifs in one post, put it under a cut so it doesn't choke my connection, it's sometimes wobbly, but otherwise I don't care either way. They're not what I'm here for, but if it floats your boat... Although if that's all you do, I won't be following you.
When it comes to comments on your posts, what matters more -- quality or quantity?
Neither, really. I shout into the void without getting comments a lot. Comment if and how you feel inclined.
Do you unfriend people who don't comment much, even if you know they are reading you regularly?
See above. Hell no.
What is your approach when it comes to commenting on other journals?
I comment if I think of something to say?
When you friend someone, but things don't really click, do you unfriend them without warning, or do you send them a note first? How do you prefer to be unfriended in similar circumstances?
I "unfriend" without warning. See, the thing is, that I am not dating you, so when I remove you from my reading list here, or stop giving you access, I do not need to formally dump you. :3 We are people who read each other's shit, we're not actually friends, by and large, and I find the use of the term "friend" for "person I am willing to speak to online" to be really silly, tbh.
AND LASTLY
Friending memes often ask people to list their favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., but more often than not, those aren't things people actually write about in their journal. Do you have any favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., that you DO often write about -- not necessarily in a fandom sort of way, just in general?
I talk about my own writing. Sometimes this is fanfic, so I do talk about media some. I write for Legend of Zelda, a lot, My Little Pony also a lot, other things kinda at random as whims catch me. But I'm not one of those people whose blog is all about the media they consume. I barely even watch movies or TV, and I read books glacially slowly these days, as my time is used up on other things.
Any final thoughts you'd like to share with potential new friends?
This all seems pretty comprehensive, and I can't think of anything to say in the moment. I'm ten different kinds of neurotic, so I don't really expect everyone out there to be interested in dropping by, but it's always nice to meet new people all the same.
Although I guess I should mention I rant a lot? DW is kinda my "letting off steam" place, so yeah, rants.
