[personal profile] hypostatize posting in [community profile] findingfriends
Is there an interesting story behind your username?
My username is a synonym for "reify", which was already taken.

Location and language(s):
North America, primarily English. I own a small collection of old foreign language dictionaries and enjoy trying to teach myself grammars from other languages, but none have quite "stuck" yet.

Age range (e.g 20s, 30s, etc.):
20s.

Hot button/deal breaker issues that will likely lead to unfriending:
I despise state censorship and book-burning mindsets and people who spend all their time and energy complaining in ideological opposition to something.

Do you have an "About Me" post new friends can read to get a sense of who you are, the people you talk about regularly, etc.?
No. I'm not sure what I would put in it anyway, since I have no other public-facing social media.

Is your profile up-to-date or at all useful?
No.

List a few things you think it's important new friends know about you right away:
I am deleting my fandom presence from the clearnet and starting over. It's been a decade since I started being a part of "fandom culture", and I'm tired of it. I want to move away from the patterns of mass-media consumption/regurgitation I created for myself, and do something completely different. Unfortunately, I like to stay somewhat anonymous, but I do enjoy having private conversations with other people.

You mostly write about:
Art history, women painters, music. I like to repost works from the public domain to my journal.

You never or very rarely write about:
I am actively trying to move away from fandom. I don't think I will post anything explicitly pornographic, although I may occasionally post nude paintings and that sort of thing if I feel like it's a representative enough work of whichever artist I'm posting about.

Is your journal mostly public, locked, or a mix of public and locked?
My journal (as of this writing) is a public-facing curation of artwork that I think is beautiful and a private-facing diary.

Do you use filters for certain types of posts (e.g. fandom-related posts, or posts about sex, or mental health issues, etc.)?
No, but if there is a type of post you would like me to filter, I can create a filterable tag.

Your posting frequency (e.g. daily, every few days, weekly, etc.):
Every few days, if I can keep up with it.

Does your journal frequently include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc?
No memes. No linkspams. No gifs. I often post large quantities of photos at once, but put all past the first two underneath a cut. I occasionally post videos for the purpose of sharing music.

What do you enjoy most about journaling?
I enjoy doing the research for my posts and fiddling around with HTML/CSS. I used to feel so focused on putting out "content" that I got lost in quantity over quality, so creating a quieter, curative experience is calming for me. It feels as if I can finally post for "myself" as opposed to for an "audience", and that is nice.

How often do you read your friends list (e.g. daily, every other day, once a week, etc.)?
Whenever I check Dreamwidth.

You really enjoy reading about:
Art history, "traditional" art techniques, trends in graphic design, music, philosophy, and textile arts.

You have very little interest in reading about:
Television shows. Cartoons. The latest shonen comic all the teens like to write fanfiction about.

Your thoughts on journals that regularly include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc?
If you put extremely long posts under a cut, I will not mind any of it. I don't like it when people post twenty promos in a row for their fan community, and will most likely unfriend anyone who does that.

When it comes to comments on your posts, what matters more -- quality or quantity?
It does not matter to me, although if someone were to communicate with me, I'd prefer one long comment as opposed to three separate threads for me to reply to.

Do you unfriend people who don't comment much, even if you know they are reading you regularly?
No, why would I do that? I'm pretty sure most people don't comment on anything.

What is your approach when it comes to commenting on other journals?
If I feel like I have something to say, I will say something. I usually don't feel like I have much to say though.

When you friend someone, but things don't really click, do you unfriend them without warning, or do you send them a note first? How do you prefer to be unfriended in similar circumstances?
I think it is kind of weird to send someone a message telling them why you unsubscribed from their journal, and it can only lead to unhappiness. Friendship is something beyond a mutual subscription, anyway.

AND LASTLY

Friending memes often ask people to list their favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., but more often than not, those aren't things people actually write about in their journal. Do you have any favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., that you DO often write about -- not necessarily in a fandom sort of way, just in general?
I love Pokemon and Tezuka's works with all my heart, but I am going to do my best not to write about anything like that. In a moment of weakness, I might end up writing something about the new Pokemon game in a private entry.

Any final thoughts you'd like to share with potential new friends?
If there's anything in particular, please ask. I like answering weirdly specific questions.

Hey Veronica! Nice meet you. I love Photoshop. When I had Ubuntu (you will learn that I know how to and quite frankly do switch OSs often) I used Gimp. :) XD
